WESTERN ELECTRIC
...has been an idea in the minds of John Stevens and Scott Roth for over five years. Unfortunately, the two have never been “single” at the same time, to allow such a project to come to fruition! Until late 2005, that is, when Scott contacted John and the two decided to get together. Things immediately came together…John had been playing with his brother, Jerry, for many years, and Scott had recently been in a band with a bass playin’ dane named Scott Petersen. They began rehearsing in Jerry’s garage in Council Bluffs, and the rest became history. In July of 2007, Pete moved on in life, and Chris Hawk took over on bass. John Spomer also came aboard with the pedal steel guitar.
John contributes his trademark Chuck Berry meets Neil Young meets Jay Farrar guitar licks, brother Jerry provides solid drumming; Hawkman crawls on the bass with steadiness and style, while Roth sings in his style, slow low and crooning about lost love and alcohol. Spomer adds extensive knowledge in traditional country and applies that knowledge very well. W.E. surely comprises more rock and roll than twang, but each does play an effective part. In the constant search for categories, one could classify W.E. as no depression, as electric folk, as country rock…as a hybrid of the replacements, uncle tupelo and the silos. But Western Electric actually has a sound all their own. A sound that is ripe for drinking beer, talking about the good times, and wondering where life will take us in the coming years.

Jerry and John have played in Hanna’s Porch, Gauge, Green Lantern, Box, Hong Jyn Corporation, Midwest Dilemma, among others;
Hawkman infiltrated Indiana with Desh and the McCauleys...and the hoosier state has not been the same since;
Roth played in Such Sweet Thunder, Love Grapes, King Construct, King City Miracles, and Four Corners/El Guapo.ne;
A Man Named Spomer has played in Sprigg Street Blues Band, 20th Century Profit, and The Mods.
Altogether, the boys have over fifty years of experience writing, recording, and playing live; they have played all over the midwest, and recorded approximately fifteen full-length projects in their various acts.

Hmmmm...that is a rather intriguing idea! What would I get inked? The logo that's on the new stickers??? (Which btw, I forgot at your house...remind me to snag a couple this weekend!) That would be a pretty killer piece of ink.
JOhn....wet tshirt?? Nah....actually the rumor I heard was he was gonna be sporting bicycle shorts so he could show off his "good side" as he put it. Lord have mercy on us all!
So just found out that my whole family will be at the K-Town gig! Even dad...and it's hockey season. Apparently there's no game that night, so everyone's in! Play your cards right and there might be dinner at mom's for everyone!
