Started in the fall of 2008 as a solo project, Western Giants have now exploded onto the north Texas music circuit, putting their unique blend of blues, folk and southern charm into the ears of everyone around. Their live show, which is something not to be missed, offers a full force of energy, spontaneous sing alongs from the audience, and a true sincerity that is hard to find in today's saturated industry.
After a 3 month life as a band, Kennon Talley, Jordan Stephens, Josiah Hampton, Aaron Stoner, and Hunter Faucher went into the studio and recorded their debut self titled EP, which was released in May 2009. With it's warm acoustic guitars, subtle slides and blazing guitar solos, their self titled EP offered a perfect soundtrack to a late summer afternoon. Not willing to be ignored, Western Giants hit the road a month after recording in support of their EP. As they toured across Texas they met new friends, made new fans, and discovered you just can't escape Texas heat.
Now, after almost a years worth of touring, gigging around the DFW area, and recording, Western Giants are gearing up to record their first full-length album. With a bigger tour planned in January, and early internet buzz, the future is bright for this quintet.

"Yes they're excellent, yes their music melds in perfectly with the current crop of Denton groups, but these guys show a potential you don't normally see in such a young/large group"

"Better suited for a cold, damp day than the heat of summer time, their album cover art is actually a perfect harbinger for what to expect out of their tunes. A favorite track of mine, “River Cry Bayou”, opens with a codeine wail of slide guitar that is nicely paired with frontman, Kennon Talley’s soft and almost effortless vocals. Being consumed in sadness is one thing, realizing that it takes something beautiful to draw that emotion is completely different. What is so wrong with an overcast sky? The Western Giants help us realize, nothing is."

"I just checked out the new EP from Western Giants and think Denton has another great band on its hands"
- DC9 at NIGHT
"This Denton bunch has a good grip on the Tex-melodia and it shows. Listening to 'em, i feel like i've stumbled across a gazebo where the Beatles and Lucero are loungin about, drinkin and thinkin' about firing up the grill and callin' the Slow Burners t'bring more beer over..."

Denton’s Western Giants play drowsy tumbleweed folk that could convince even the slickest of city slicker to sprout unkempt facial hair and swap out Grey Goose and Red Bull for a frosty Lone Star as their drink-of-choice.

The Western Giants are quickly establishing themselves as an alt-country force in the Denton music scene, the Americana twang and swirling keyboards of their debut E.P. gave way to a more straightforward indie rock feel. The keys work was more reminiscent of "The Bends" era Radiohead, and the bassist's busy runs kept the music fluid and moving. Their live energy left many alt-country conventions behind, with mainly the slower tempos and earnestness remaining.
