"Wes Weddell has a gift for story-telling, wisdom beyond his years, and a troubadour spirit that will serve him and his audience for a long time to come."
-Fran Snyder, concertsinyourhome.com
"Modern-Day Woody Guthrie"
-Seattle Times
"A refreshing throwback in these days of synthesized, digitalized, commercialized performers and performances."
-Walla Walla (Wash.) Union-Bulletin
"As in the finest storytelling, the emotion is conveyed by the details, the plainly narrated actions, and the growing sense of the humanness of the people involved... We are the better for it."
-Bill Fisher, Victory Music Review
“Let there be no doubt: Wes Weddell is a major
Northwest artist, a major talent in American
music, and he’s here for the long haul.”
-Victory Music Review
The contemporary folkloric work of Seattle singer/songwriter Wes Weddell has earned him attention and praise reaching well beyond the regional byways depicted in his 2001 release, My Northwest Home. Hailed a "Modern-Day Woody Guthrie" by the Seattle Times, Wes received the inaugural Mary Gates Venture Fellowship from the University of Washington to help complete the academic road trip that produced nine songs and heaps of stories.
Known for his strong playing and quick-wit writing, Wes continues to touch and charm audiences wherever he goes. The 2006 release of Songs to Get You From Here to There introduces 12 new numbers and a fuller-band sound that expands upon an acoustic framework. (Check out the samples!) The album also features "Carry On," the song that won the 2006 Tumbleweed Music Festival Songwriting Contest.
Between engagements performing and teaching, Wes founded Puget's Sound Productions, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing local stages for Seattle-area musicians and to promoting the value of community live-music events. He also plays mandolin to accompany the beloved folksinging duo Reilly & Maloney on dates in the Northwest.
This month we mostly have Catie Curtis (with a Richard Thompson cover), Lindsay Fuller and The Cheap Dates (and who amongst us isn't?), Josh Fix with a track from the well-titled album This Town Is Starting To Make Me Angry and the rather lovely Red Rooster.
Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Itâs that time of the month and our site has four new tracks up for your listening enjoyment.
This monthâs box of delights include the swaggering groove of Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, the insanely catchy folk-pop of Antje Duvekot, the languid Great Lake Swimmers and, a little belatedly but better late than never, The Young Republic.
A particularly strong month, even if we do say so ourselves. Check them out, you won't regret it.
