"Sure to be Canada’s sweetest export since Maple Syrup, We Were Lovers combines their solid pop sensibilites with an untamed
rock and roll edge. Singer Elsa Gebremichael’s effervescent vocals induce late-90s nostalgia for Letters To Cleo, and
other strong female front women, while the guitarists Ash Lamothe and Jeshaiah Wiebe blend their unique musical backgrounds
into an alluring swirl of guitars. The music remains inoffensively buoyant while tackling the inherent sadness of loves
lost, as derived from the band’s name. Despite this historically lethal combination, We Were Lovers attack the subject matter
to create popular music with an original twist. And with inspirations ranging from Karate to food to love and heartbreak, its no
wonder they have avoided the legendary pitfalls, not to mention created captivating sound that truly is all their own." CMJ Magazine
Born from the remnants of various musical projects, We Were Lovers is the latest in a Canadian tradition of lovelorn indie rock. Dancey beats, swirling atmospheric guitars, and lovely synths convey a wide array of moods and themes, as strong female vocals wrap stories of love and loss around catchy melodies. In just a few short months they've recorded an EP, been featured on New York's CMJ Magazine Sampler, been invited to the Western Canadian Music Awards and South By Southwest, and completed their first tour. Elsa Gebremichael, Ash Lamothe, Jeshaiah Weibe, Zachary Lucky, and Jordan Kurtz have found a way to bring together an endless catalogue of influences, while somehow managing to sound fresh and unique, and avoid the sometimes overwhelming and frustrating amount of cliches and tired tricks. They use some of the most basic and reliable musical ingredients to form some of the most intriguing and heartfelt "pop n roll" you're likely to hear.

Hello, We Were Lovers! I was lucky to meet Elsa throwing baseballs in the madness of SXSW, but I missed your showcase that evening...When I came to this page to hear your music, my jaw dropped and I felt deep, painful regret that I'd missed seeing you perform live while I had the opportunity.
