Wendy loved music as a child buying 45's and dancing all the time. From James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, The Beatles, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, and Patti LaBelle, she found great joy. Her musical studies began with classical flute in high school and teaching herself acoustic guitar to Bob Dylan tunes. She debuted with Lon & Derrick Van Eaton's band, "The Trees," singing "I Got You Babe" with Lon. Lon & Derrick went on to record on Apple Records with George Harrison and Ringo Starr. After moving to NY from NJ, Wendy did a short stint waitressing at the Cafe Wha? on MacDougal Street in the West Village. But it was the Woodstock Music Festival's three days of incredible music climaxing with Sunday's performance of Jimi Hendrix that got her serious, and she immersed herself in learning electric bass. She studied music at Hunter College in New York City and upright bass with famed jazz bassist Milt Hinton. She played in her first all-girl band, "Sugar Lewis," "Tequila Sunrise," and her first latin band, "Orchestra Cobre Libre."
While in New York, she met Vicki Sue Robinson. The two played around New York and soon Vicki's album on RCA Records took off. Wendy became the touring bass player for Vicki Sue Robinson on her "Turn the Beat Around" tour and recorded on Vicki’s second album. She played top venues throughout the country and appeared on major TV shows (Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, etc...) with Vicki.
Wendy met her future husband, Butch Taylor, while in Vicki's band. They began writing original music together and performed in many local bands. In 1981 Wendy toured throughout the Far East and Pacific theater in the all-female rock band, "Fire," for the D.O.D. U.S.O. show.
Wendy has also performed and recorded with salsa band, "Vinny & Ray Orchestra" on their debut 1998 CD "Only the Beginning. Salsa became a passion for her. She is currently working with Carmen Gloria on Reggaeton and Bachata CDs. www.carmengloria.com
