  • Bio

by the way, for a speedy/more reliable responses to any inquiries it's best to contact us via www.myspace.com/rachaeldadd or www.myspace.com/thisisthekit in the autumn of 2004 rachael and kate found themselves in bristol and they decided to start playing music together. they then were joined by virpi kettu on violin. the trio had a very fine time indeed playing concerts all around the place. they even got to play on the accoustic stage at glastonbury in 2005. highly exciting. they recorded their album "recording with the window open" which is available through Angel's egg records, japan. then there came a pause when they all went off in different directions to persue various solo projects. virpi now lives in canada kate lives in france and rachael has spent the last year or so in japan. kate and rachael toured japan in october 2008 and have been playng whalebone polly gigs in the uk and france whenever they can. they are just about to release their new ep "taproot and sill" on dreamboat records on september the 15th this is a little video of them recording the ep at microbe studios france. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

You stand a good chance of getting a pouchy one at our EP launch at The Folkhouse in Bristol on the 11th .. .. .. ...... .. .. Whalebone Polly ‘Taproot And Sill’ (EP, Dreamboat Records) • Turnips. Too rarely spoken of with romance, until now. For it is a winsome ode to the underrated root vegetable (or some unfortunately nicknamed bloke, perhaps) that opens this warm, folky EP from Rachael Dadd and Kate Stables, aka Whalebone Polly. Given that the two musicians were separated by several continents prior to recording – indeed, it looked like it was game over for the band a few years ago - the intimate, homespun feel they achieve here is impressive. Banjo, trumpet, clarinet and soft percussion tick along together like parts of a well-oiled bicycle, while above it all soar two voices as soft, warm and unfussy as an oven-fresh croissant. ‘Good Good Light’ calls to mind the Throwing Muses; elsewhere, as in ‘Window’ it’s Joanna Newsom without the cloying quirks. Welcome back, girls. (Anna Britten) **** .. .. pouches.......................... .. .. ...... .. .. and badges................. .. .. ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
