About me:
Well, I got interested in playing bass after seeing the Jackson 5 live. I thought it was cool the way Jermaine could sing and play bass at the same time. I started my professional career with R&B group Grand Staff in 1982. The group worked the private party circuit, toured Japan and recorded two local hits “Ain’t so bad” and “Party big time” and were winners of the 1st Budweiser Showdown contest. The experience with Grand Staff led to commercial jingle sessions. Trumpeter Orbert Davis, (who was co-leader of Grand Staff), got me my first jingle session. To date I’ve played on over 500 commercial jingles that include spots for: McDonalds, Ford Motor Co., Coca Cola Co., Anheuser-Busch Inc., Procter & Gamble, Wrigley Jr. Co., Southwest Airlines, Kraft foods, K-mart, Alberto Culver, Quaker Oats, Nordictrack, Sears and the Illinois Lottery that featured a bass solo and voiceover performance. After leaving Grand Staff in 1989, I set forth on the journey of the freelance musician. Through the jingle session experience I hooked with jingle producer "Butch" stewart around 1990. I played bass in his band BG. Vox, for a month in Yokahoma, Japan. "Butch" also produced theme and bumper music for the "Oprah Winfrey Show" from 1998 through 2003 that I played bass on. During my career some of the artist I've toured/performed with include: Angela Bofill, The Emotions, Phil Perry, Ramsey Lewis, The Dells, The late great Grover Washington Jr. Lou Rawls, Nick Colionne, Vesta, Jennifer Holiday, Billy Paul, Johnny Gill, Gladys Knight, Charlie Wilson, (of the Gap Band) and R. Kelly, appearing in R. Kelly’s “Bump and Grind” video. I hooked up with Producer/Remixer/DJ/Grammy Award winner Maurice Joshua in 97'. I laid bass tracks for most of his hit remixes for artist that included: Beyonce', Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Mary J., Chris Brown and John Legend. My selected Discography: Beyonce “Deja vu” (dance remix) “Crazy in love” (2004 Grammy winner "best dance remix single"), Janet Jackson “Just a little while” (dance remix), Destiny Child “Soldier” (dance remix) & Missy Elliott “Teary Eyed” (dance remix). I played bass on R. Kelly Multi-Platinum CD “12Play” & Destiny’s Child Platinum CD “This is the remix”. I'm currently a member of Poi Dog Pondering. I joined PDP back in July 1999. My 1st gig with PDP was at Grant Park, Chicago opening up for Cheap Trick to a sold out crowd. The next night PDP headlined the Metro, Chicago to another sold out crowd. I was hooked, there's nothing like playing to a sold out crowd, especially when you know these people have paid money to see you the band and not just the artist you're playing behind. PDP fans are the best! They're truely loyal. One of the MAIN reasons I'm still with PDP is the feeling of being apart of something, a group. Don't get me wrong, I like changing it up a bit and working with different artist. But at the end of the day it's just that, working for the artist. You can check us out on myspace.com/poidogpondering & www.platetectonicmusic.com. Poi Dog Pondering's new CD, titled "7", is scheduled to be released April 1st 2008. Followed by a Spring/Summer Tour.
