Stand Up To Cancer

With the Republican and Democratic National Conventions taking center stage in the news, lets talk about the politics of doing good! There’s a bunch of people out there lending a hand to create change and positive influence. Here are some great stories for the week.

On Friday, September 7^th at 8pm be sure to check out the live telecast of ‘Stand Up To Cancer,’ which raises money for cancer research. Hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, this star-studded event hits close to home for many of the celebrity performers who have lost loved ones to cancer featuring Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Katie Couric, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw. Born This Way Foundation

Lady Gaga and the Born This Way Foundation (BTWF) welcomed 24 youth to Los Angeles to participate in its inaugural Youth Advisory Board (YAB) Summit. Social change agents from all over the country aged 17-23 convened at Paramount Pictures for three days of open dialogue led by youth advocate and journalist Anne Collier, and the CEO of Mobilize.org, Maya Enista Smith. Led by Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta, Born This Way Foundation was founded in 2011 to foster a more accepting society. BTWF, a non-profit charitable organization, will address issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development through research, education and advocacy. Lamb Of God

The band Lamb of God announces an eBay memorabilia auction for the Randy Blythe defense fund. The Lamb of God lead singer Randy Blythe is back home after 5 weeks in prison in the Czech Republic. The auction has been started by band mates to help pay for his mounting legal fees. In addition, a number of musicians have offered equipment to be used in the auction.  Guitars have been donated by Machine Head’s Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel as well as Slash and Five Finger Death Punch. Megadeth’s David Ellefson and Five Finger Death Punch’s Chris Kael have each contributed a bass and the members of Five Finger Death Punch also have contributed a signed skateboard. To peruse the auction, click here.

Little Big Town

Little Big Town is the latest country act to partner with ConAgra Foods in a partnership to support the company’s nationwide Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. The band has recorded an exclusive video of the original song “Here’s Hope” in the style of their popular “Scattered, Smothered and Covered” web series, which has featured the group harmonizing on hits by Bruno Mars, Adele and more. The video will premiere on the ConAgra Foods Facebook page in September.
