    .
This week, we have a few indie gems, including an indie horror movie making a mainstream move as well as a few more spooky selections. So grab a blanket to hide under, turn the lights off, and check out the latest in nightmare inducing fare.

    .

    ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’

    .
This January, we will get to revisit one of horror’s most infamous killers. After a young woman goes to collect an inheritance with a group of her friends, they soon discover that not only did they get a house, but a chainsaw wielding psycho as well. From the looks of the trailer, we get to see the man known to us as Leatherface.
    .
Take-away: While the early 2000’s TCM only had two chainsaw deaths, it seems that this one will have more action with Leatherface’s signature weapon of choice. Vrrrrrrrrm! Vrrrrrrm!
    .

    ‘Smashed’

    .
Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Kate, who after going too far with partying decides to get sober. With the support of her husband Charlie (Aaron Paul), she begins to face all of the lies and issues she avoided while drinking. Both Charlie and Kate also start to see how fundamental drinking was to their marriage.
    .
Take-away: It’s exciting to see Winstead take on a more challenging lead role.
    .

    ‘The Bay’

    .
The producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious bring us a movie that promises to get under our skin. The Bay is a found footage horror movie that reveals what really happened one Fourth of July in a small oceanfront town. Beginning with a harrowing 911 call and following up with people getting their insides eaten from the inside, this trailer is pretty intense as it spins out of control.
    .
    Take-away: Don’t drink the water.
    .

    ‘Ginger and Rosa’

    .
Elle Fanning stars as Ginger, a young girl who along with her friend Rosa (Alice Englert) begin to discover who they are at the dawn of the cold war and sexual revolution. Their friendship is put to the test as ideas begin to clash and they fight for that they believe in. Also starring: Christina Hendricks, Timothy Spall and Annette Bening.
    .
Take-away: Since we don’t see Rosa interacting with anyone else in the trailer, could this be similar to a girl’s version of Fight Club?
    .

    ‘Mama’

    .
After two little girls are found surviving in the wilderness, their uncle and his girlfriend (Jessica Chastain) are given custody. While the couple tries to adapt and become parenting figures, the children begin to act strangely and refer to “Mama” as someone on their way to them.
    .
Take-away: Guillermo Del Toro needs to stop presenting movies and direct more!
    .

    ‘The Oranges’

    .
The Oranges boasts an ensemble cast composed of Hugh Laurie, Leeighton Meester, Oliver Platt, Allison Janey, Alia Shawkat, Catherine Keener and Adam Brody as two families that get torn apart by the unveiling of a dirty little secret. The head of one of the families (Laurie) gets caught with the daughter of the other clan (Meester) which ruins the lifelong friendship between houses.
    .
Take-away: So Blair picks House over Seth from The O.C.?
    .

    ‘Grave Encounters 2′

    .
The sequel to indie horror hit Grave Encounters takes us back to the asylum with a group of young filmmakers who seek to discover whether or not the events that took place in the first film actually happened. The cast puts themselves in a situation that many have considered when movies claim to be real found footage. But what happens when a fun trip turns into exactly what they desired and feared?
    .
Take-away: Just the trailer looks like a fantastic improvement from the first film. The scares, the effects, the deaths look horrific!
    .
There you have it! Make sure to watch some of these flicks with someone you can hold close. Happy hauntings!
