British musician Jasmine van den Bogaerde goes by the stage name Birdy after a childhood nickname. The artist, who is still in her teens, first came into the spotlight last January when her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” went into the top 20 of the U.K. Singles Chart.

Birdy kicked off her music career when she was only 12. In 2008, she won the U.K. talent contest Open Mic U.K., a spinoff of the Live and Unsigned competition. After winning, the singer was offered a publishing deal in the U.K. by Good Soldier Songs Ltd. Her first major hit was the Bon Iver, which ended up at No. 17 on the Singles Chart and landed in an episode of The Vampire Diaries in May of last year. Birdy subsequently covered several other tunes, including The xx’s “Shelter.”

Birdy’s self-titled debut came out in the U.K. last November via 14th Floor Records/Atlantic Records, featuring all covers except for one original tune. Now the singer will release the record here in the States on March 20 via Warner Bros.

The singer will also have a song in the upcoming soundtrack for The Hunger Games. Birdy recently spoke with Nylon, saying, “I was in LA and I was reading all the books while I was recording my album. I was so inspired by The Hunger Games I wrote a song about it, and they are using it in the film! I haven’t performed it anywhere yet; I’m saving it. I really hope I get to go to the premiere… I’d love that.”
