From “Catching Fire” and “The Lone Ranger” to “The Dark Knight Rises” and “World War Z,” we’ve got all the latest news bits right here. That’s right – the good, the bad, and the ugly … all in one place.
The Good News “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be shot and shown in IMAX screens so we can all get motion sickness together. Plus, Phillip Seymour Hoffman just might play Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. Shooting doesn’t begin until this fall, but the movie is due out November 22, 2013. . The Bad News “The Lone Ranger,” starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, is being massively held up by rewrites. This, in turn, is pushing production costs way over budget. At this point it looks like the production is possibly running weeks behind its shooting schedule, although some of the delay can be attributed to the weather. Still, Disney can’t be happy with the budget, and after the murky “Dark Shadows” opening, even Johnny Depp isn’t a sure thing. This one is due out July 3, 2013. . The Good News
Casting for the “RoboCop” remake is underway, and it turns out that Hugh Laurie is in talks to play the main bad guy. That’s quite a leap from his role on “House, M.D.,” but then again, this is Hugh Laurie we’re talking about. If he can make the jump from British comedy to an American Drama (as the good guy), surely turning over a new (bad guy) leaf won’t be too hard. Other cast so far include Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, and Samuel L. Jackson. . The Bad News “World War Z” looks to be in trouble after all. Production costs have jumped $45 million to a whopping $170 million and the cast and crew list seems to be like a revolving door. In addition, Paramount has brought in Damon Lindelof to reword the third act. And there is reportedly another five weeks of complex reshoots needed. Hopefully Paramount won’t pull the plug on this before we get to see it. As for the reported trilogy? All bets are off on that one. . The Good News “Hit and Run” is looking like a surprisingly funny movie … more so than “Bridesmaids” and “The Hangover” combined! This movie failed to appear on many summer movie guides lists (including our own), but judging from the trailer, it’s super funny and something to really look forward to. Check out the trailer and see what you think. “Hit and Run” opens August 24th, 2012. .
. Official Synopsis:Charlie Bronson, a former getaway driver busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip grows awkwardly complicated, when they are chased by the feds, and increasingly dangerous, when Charlie’s former gang of criminals enter the fray. . The Bad News “Harry Potter” could be headed for a remake. It’s the nature of Hollywood, right? Despite the fact that we just saw the final film’s release less than a year ago, it is possible that we could see a remake in ten years’ time, according to Daniel Radcliffe. In our opinion, “Harry Potter” is an instant classic that needs no remake. . The Good News
On the bright side of things, Radcliffe said he would be open to coming back and doing a part for the remake. His thoughts on the subject came out during a promo for “The Woman In Black’s” DVD release. He said: . “The one thing that terrifies me is that the idea that in 20 years or so they’ll probably remake the films. Just with the world’s generally shrinking attention span, it will probably only be 10 years before people are ready to remake them again. So you know, I could come back and play Lupin or whoever I want in 20 years maybe.” . The Bad News “The Amazing Spider-Avenger” will probably never take place, at least not in our universe. While Marvel’s movie universe is a great place for crossover superheroes like “The Avengers,” it turns out that Sony’s rights to the Spider-man films has crushed the idea in the past. And while The Latino Review gives us some hope that it could still happen, it’s not like Spider-man will team up with The Avengers. It’s more likely you’ll see familiar pieces of real estate entwined between the universes, such as the Oscorp Tower. . The Good News “50 Shades of Grey” is inevitable. And the good news for the ladies is that The Stir is making a great case for Ryan Gosling to play Christian Grey. And at least one hopeful director wants Gosling on board, so why not? Other actors whose names have been bantered about as potentials for the role include Robert Pattinson, Ian Somerhalder, Chris Pine, Zac Efron, Henry Cavill, Wes Bentley, and Christian Bale. But let’s be honest ladies … who would you rather have in the role? . The Bad News “Goodfellas” inspiration Henry Hill is dead at the age of 69. Hill turned FBI informant at one point, but was later kicked out of the witness protection program. His live of crime was the basis for Martin Scorsese’s 1990 classic mob film. Ray Liotta played Hill in the film. While his exploits were legendary, his testimony was almost atonement for his sins (plus the prison term he served). It resulted in the capture of nearly 50 mob figures, including Paul Vario – one of New York’s most feared. . Warner Bros. . The Good News “The Dark Knight Rises” soundtrack listing is here. The soundtrack was constructed by composer Hans Zimmer (“Dark Knight,” “Lion King,” and “Inception”). The soundtrack will reportedly drop on July 17th, three days before the movie.
