Madonna Is Being Sued For Supporting Gay Rights In Russia

America apparently isn’t the only place where gay rights is a hot topic and now, get this, Russian activists are suing Madonna for millions of dollars saying that they were offended by her support of the rights of homosexuals during a concert in St. Petersburg. Apparently they have never been to a Madonna concert before?.
A law passed in February in St. Petersburg makes it illegal “to promote homosexuality to minors” and reportedly there were children as young as nine at the concert which took place earlier this month. Entertainment Weekly reports that the suit was filed on Friday by nine activists against Madonna, show organizers and the venue asking for $10.5 million in damages.

The group filing the lawsuit has come under criticism that their opinions and the law is outdated however their lawyer Alexander Pochuyev claims that isn’t the case. “No one is burning anyone at the stake or carrying out an Inquisition,” Pochuyev was quoted by RIA Novosti as explaining. “Modern civilization requires tolerance and respect for different values.”

These nine people are specifically upset that Madonna stomped on an orthodox cross during the show and asked fans to raise their hands to show off their pink arm bands… and Madonna’s support for Pussy Riot probably didn’t help, either.
