Today Forbes announced its annual list of who they deem to be the world’s 100 Most Powerful Women. Not surprisingly, the list contains a host of world leaders, Fortune 500 executives, Michelle Obama, etc. But what is quite interesting is the weight given to some of the world’s best-known female music stars. Who ranked where? Read below to see where artists such as Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez came in on the financial publication’s annual ranking.
.
It was hardly surprising that Lady Gaga was deemed to be the most powerful of the female artists selected for the list. However, we were a bit shocked to see her placing so high: Gaga was ranked at Number 14, ahead of the president of Argentina and CEO’s of major companies such as Xerox and Hewlett-Packard. Beyonce was next in line at Number 32, Jennifer Lopez was Number 38 and Shakira came in at Number 40. It’s also interesting to note that the four aforementioned females placed ahead of actress Angelina Jolie and acclaimed author JK Rowling.
.
But what does this really tell us? Well, more than anything, it points at Forbes putting great stock in the power of celebrity. Yes, women like Gaga and her counterparts have charities in place and do their best to have a positive impact on the world. But a woman’s placement on this list ultimately comes down to the weight of their actions and words. That there are now outlets like Facebook and Twitter — between Gaga, Beyonce and Shakira they have a combined 50 million Twitter followers — only furthers a celeb’s reach.

Do you agree with the Forbes powerful-women list? Do you think there were too many or too few artists on it? Let us know in the comment section below.

I believe it was just the right amount of artist, and the ones they list, it's well deserved. There is one on the list I never read about her accomplishment or charity service, but it doesn't mean she has not done any. Obviously the world LOVES these ladies, and Forbes does as well.
