"What's He Building In There?" is the question at hand. In search of the answer, the weak may fall to the wayside, cursing the very name that ignited their quest: "What's He Building In There? is the shittiest name I've seen all year," -The Metal Observer. But those who tap strength from the sound of something utterly different, will discover an undeniable truth.
"Even if you had warned me I wouldn't have believed you," rants Spencer Lavigne of Tangible Sounds Magazine. "WHBIT? creates a sort of audio psychosis that totally envelopes and surrounds the listener like a straight jacket."
In this madness, familiar faces are evoked and their contrasting voices mix in what one might consider sonic combat juice. With Unbound Magazine describing WHBIT? as "if Mike Patton took over writing duties for Between the Buried and Me," and Domain Cleveland's portrayal that "if Dream Theatre and System of a Down joined together and played some death metal, the resulting chaos would probably sound a lot like What's He Building In There?" it is obvious that this band unifies a myriad of styles on their debut self-titled album.
Released in May 2007 on Year of the Sun Records, this 54 minute storybook album has made a splash in the experimental realm of metal, and the cryptic story itself has grabbed the attention of an audience prepared to listen carefully. "[This album] is a lyrical masterpiece," raves The Endless Feed. "The lyrics, read front to back, tell a captivating story. This is beyond a concept album. This is a newer and more interesting Bible."
After fist-fighting Jesus over the implications of the aforementioned quote, and releasing an avant-garde music video for the single "Avian Taxi", WHBIT? set out to spread the word. They have returned from their summer 2008 Canadian west coast tour, are about to embark on a fall Canadian east coast tour and are preparing to take their music and their tour van to uncharted areas in 2009.
This quintet, their angelic faces and immaculate bodies often obscured by jovial masks, costumes and/or patchy facial hair, never take themselves too seriously, but their music is another matter all together. Labeled as "one of the few bands outside of Between the Buried and Me that could break into the (relative) mainstream while not conforming to the *core stereotypes usually needed to succeed," by Decoy Music, it is clear that their original breed of music speaks for itself.
