"There are bits and pieces of all sorts of things in this band's sound: R.E.M., Pixies, PJ Harvey, Cranberries, Radiohead..." - Sir Millard Mulch, Ink19 Magazine
"their sound is a hodgepodge of the Athens, Georgia ethic with early progressive rock (think REM meets the Moody Blues) and the occasional nod to grunge..." - John Popovics, Openingbands.com
Where's Moo is an alternative rock band that formed in Orlando, Florida by frontman Michael Mangum and guitarist Jocelyn Scharoun (formerly Horvath). They were later joined by drummer Matt Soule, and recently joined by bassist Kevin Manwarren and second guitarist Trey Stafford. Previous band members include Michael Crowley (cello) and Aram Kirakosian of IO Echo (bass). They are currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Their live shows are filled with a passion and intensity that send lead singer Mangum into a spinning frenzy.
Their sound has labeled everything from Canadien indie pop to space traveling sex rock. "R.E.M. and The Pixies having sex in a spaceship that's crashing into the sun."
Some Reviews:
Daniel Melia of Gigwise.com
"their sound transcending the last 20 years of American freaked out ambient indie, California based Wheres Moo are an intriguing prospect. From the outset you can hear the obvious influences of REM, and in the darker places The Pixies. The highlights on this seven song strong extended player are the driving, power packed opener Electric Organizer, the menacing razor-edged nod to proto-grunge Cant Live With Buttons and the melancholy closer Alien People with its jarringly operatic feel. . ."

"...the music from this CD has become trapped in my head. I hear it when I ride the train; when Im shopping for groceries, when I pay my taxes...I go to sleep hearing it, and when I wake up its still playing where it left off. I dont even need to play the CD anymore - its embedded in my brain. . .there are bits and pieces of all sorts of things in this bands sound: R.E.M., Pixies, PJ Harvey, Cranberries, Radiohead...subtle and clever musical moments on this CD...it just shows that the established music scene needs to be altered...Three cheers for Wheres Moo."
Forrest Reda of Music Connection Magazine
"Material: Michael Mangums vocal style is reminiscent of early R.E.M., but Wheres Moo ratchet up the rock quotient to Pixie-like levels, and Horvaths backup vocals and guitar fuzz bring a Sonic Youth quality to the songs. Wheres Moo is an outstanding representation of the groups influences, and offer something new to the mix as well.
Musicianship: Horvath is so good that she plays with seemingly little effort. Sublime, but uniquely urban, guitar sounds pore out of her instrument, as much as Mangums vocals leap from his throat. Giragos is completely immersed in the music, as is the robust Soule, who drums with supreme confidence. Mangum plays his guitar with a purpose. The band is tight and have magnetic chemistry.
Performance: Wheres Moo pumped the Silver Lake lounge with a large dose of the subversive energy that makes the bands college-radio genre relevant. Mangum wore yellow tinted glasses for the first few songs in a nod to Michael Stipe and Bono. The music grabbed the attention of the crowd, which mostly stood while they moved their bodies slightly to the music, listened intently to the songwriting, and appreciated the fretwork of Horvath as well as the energy and style of Giragos.
Summary: Earnest and dedicated, Wheres Moo is passionate about the frenetically melodious art-rock that it graciously distributes to fans. However, as well as Mangum plays the frontman role, his deference to the band is what makes Wheres Moo a special act to experience live."
Once again I have a favour to ask of everyone out there in the MySpace world, and I’m sorry because I know these things can get a bit annoying, but every vote counts, and I am happy to return the favour if you need me to vote or rate anything of yours, so… if you get the chance could you please rate my new song “Million Miles Away” on Triple J Unearthed?
