Sounds Like
The Whiners:
Our stuff combines a mix of happy/sad life experiences (our own and others -
maybe yours too). KEITH calls it "whinersmusic".
The band:
KEITH uses what he calls "the Band in a Box" for harmony and effects generation
when playing all on his lonesome - he got really motivated by watching KT Tunstall
and her "wee little bastard" pedal.
Group wise, we're a wee bit aggresive-folk sounding. Perhaps: "alt-punk-new-old-rock".
When we all play together, Dave, our lead guy can play like Dave Gilmour and we love that. So, we can
sound pretty electric and dirty when we want to.
Shannon is an awesome singer so we can, and we do, cover chick folk-rockers
pretty well.
Jamie is fearless ... he's the Spock to KEITH's Kirk and the glue that holds our arrangements together.
Historically:
The Whiners (v.1.0) began in May 1998 as a duo. The duo became a "solo" in May
2005 with a Whiners KEITH v.2.0 emerging in June 2005.
There was some continuity in this since the "newest" members played with v.1.0
as guests on occaision. Thus, v.2.0 officially began what KEITH calls a looser
family version of the Whiners band er, perhaps, we should say the whinersmusic
"brand" since pretty well anyone who plays with with KEITH these days is an
honourary playing Whiner. KEITH is reallly the most active dude in this whole
deal.
Other guests, including Ed Lee, Jeff Currie, Pat Clancy, Henry Teitleman and
Shelly Davine join in at times. KEITH & Jamie as well as KEITH & Dave have gone
out as The Whiners and shannon & KEITH have hit a few stages too.
That's the story so far except to say our biggest thrill gigs were at the Opera
House (v.1.0) and Nathan Phillips Square (v.2.0) in Toronto. Our Annual Variety
Night ran seven years starting in 2001. We put that to rest in 2008 planning different adventures in sight and sound into the next Whiners decade.
