WHIPLASH...neck-breaking music
Reformed by Portaro in 2010, this power trio delivers a performance of pure adrenaline energy. Dank on bass and backup vocals has an undeniable presence on stage, and Loord Foord's intensity seems machine-driven. Tony Portaro's vocals and pounding riffs keep heads banging, while his intricate leads are mesmerizing to witness. Bassist Dank DeLong, from New York, has music influences from the 80's New York Metal/Hardcore/Punk scene, where he developed his bass style. His project work and acoustic show background boosts his commanding backing vocals, making Dank a powerhouse.
UK's Dan "Loord" Foord takes the reigning seat on drums. Foord (formerly of SikTh) has a progressive, mathematical style, like a high-performance machine. Much in demand on his own collaborative projects, he produces and has taught at London's Academy of Contemporary Music. As one of the UK's finest technical drummers, Foord plays with the power and complexity of a controlled explosion.
Originally formed in New Jersey in 1984, WHIPLASH were the three Tony's: Tony Portaro on guitar and vocals, drummer Tony Scaglione and bassist Tony Bono. They were signed by Roadrunner Records in 1985 and recorded their debut album "Power And Pain." Their first show followed at Ruthie's Inn in Berkeley, California. Known as innovators of the East Coast thrash style, they were influenced by the bands from the San Francisco Bay area, where thrash was born. WHIPLASH embarked on an extensive European tour with Sodom before releasing their second thrash classic "Ticket To Mayhem" in 1987.
After Scaglione left to do a tour with Slayer, WHIPLASH would continue to experience lineup changes, including the passing of Tony Bono in 2002. Portaro continued to write and establish his complex style, developing the direction of the band. With seven records to date, and tour stops throughout Europe and South America, WHIPLASH has carved their notch in metal.
WHIPLASH – bringing old school thrash to a new generation of metal – THRASH 'TIL DEATH!
