A little bit about us:
We really have come a long way from our very humble beginning back in 1998. Would you recognize us now from back then? A few faces have come and gone but you can rest easy in knowing our enthusiasm for playing music and putting on a good show is still alive.
Our musical "cocktail" contains a shot of straight country from the likes of George Strait, Keith Whitley, Johnny Cash, John Conlee, Randy Travis, Hank Williams Jr. and a jigger of southern rock from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Z Z Top, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Bachman Turner Overdrive.
To compliment the mix, we'll toss in a nip or two of the new stuff like Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley. Then we shake it up and you drink it down.
That just gets our night started when the crowd gets into it, we do know how to Rock Heavy with our own twisted kind of style with a chaser of classic rock with some of the new rock from The Eagles, Steve Miller Band, Poison, K I S S, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Bob Seger, Pink Floyd to Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock.
As close friends would explain we really do not have a front man or lead singer, we are just the Whiskey Johnson Boy's and let the band be the "front man"; The band: Dave Thronson on guitar, vocals, and drums, Ricky Halverson playing lead guitar and vocals, Lyle Thronson on bass and vocals, Chris Madrinich on the drums. Dave & Lyle have that type of harmony that only family can have and it really comes out on the slow songs that we do. Ricky's friends/fans call him the "Human Jukebox" because he knows a lot of songs; Chris & Lyle make up one the tightest rhythm sections around.
So if asked what is the heart and soul of Whiskey Johnson it is the love for playing music, making friends and having everyone feel they are part of every show we do.
We are a 4-piece now and are excited & a little nervous to see what the future holds for WJ but we know we'll be playing great music as long as there are people who want to have fun and hear it.. So, there you have it, the whole updated saga of Whiskey Johnson. The band that plays it all: Alabama, AC/DC, Waylon, ZZ Top, and much more. We'll be coming to an area near you soon so be ready to find out what "ROCK HEAVY" is all about.
