Food, booze, art, music, lit, pajama pants, sporks, hiking, camping, knitting, acheiving hotness through health, staring off into space, traveling when I can afford it, building my vocabulary, board games, coffee, observing and participating in childish behaviors, collecting wine bottles, spending time out, spending time in, sleeping, napkin origami, internet stalking and information mining.
Music
Geez, too much to cram into this box, and I am always on the hunt for new sounds for my listening pleasure. I gleefully consume bits of everything from classical, rock, blues, hip hop, latin jazz, Gregorian chants, reggae, and alternative to Algerian funk. I also have a keen interest in music for children that doesn't drive me up the wall -- family favorites being Dan Zanes, Lori Berkner, and Jerry Garcia (yes! Jerry did a kids album!) and that really trippy song 'Joshua Giraffe' by Raffi. I am currently running high to bluegrass, acoustic, and alt-pop. Lately I've been listening to Cake, Gillian Welsh, The Gourds, Jack Johnson, Jeb Loy Nichols, and the Gorillaz. And the adult alternative station on my satelite TV radio option thingydeal. Other name dropping. Ben Taylor (son of James), James Taylor, Be Good Tanyas, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Clapton, Allmans, Satie, Debussy, Smetana, Chopin, Sons of Ralph, Cabaret Diosa, John Mayer (his new one -- John Mayer Trio -- is AMAZING), Wilco, Elvis Costello, Grateful Dead, Stringcheese Incident, Acoustic Syndicate, Ryan (not Bryan) Adams, Sarah Harmer, Amy Correia, Indigo Girls, Kirsty MacColl, Southern Culture On The Skids, North Mississippi Allstars, The Cure, The Clash, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Ramones, Spinal Tap, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Sam Bush, Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Steve Miller, J. Giles Band, Van Morrison, Austin Lounge Lizards. I'm sure I will think of more later.
Movies
James Bond. Movies where girls kick ass. Art films and foreign films. (They make me feel pretentious and classy and avant gaurde) Kung Fu movies. Quirky indy flicks. (I would so have dated Napoleon Dynamite in high school.) The occasional chick flick or big budget action flick, but the mass produced Hollywood stuff is losing its appeal. I really want to go see the gay cowboy movie. I wanna see Heath Ledger as a purse-swingin' nancy boy. I'm not sure why.
Television
When I can wrest the remote from offspring or spouse, I watch LOTS of Food Network, Discovery (Mythbusters is the bomb and Adam Savage is so gonna be my next husband), VH1, Law and Order and CSI. I would watch Digging for the Truth on History Channel even if the host wasn't a to-die-for hotty. I also watch far too much Noggin and Playhouse Disney, but that isn't really my doing -- but Charlie and Lola is just an adorable show, Jack's Big Music Show is lots of fun, and I s'pose the Doodlebops are tolerable -- a bit simpering and smarmy at times but I like the bus song and Bus Driver Bob's rap. (Hey! C'mon! We're goin on a bus ride!)
Books
The last book I read that really spoke to me was Father Joe by Tony Hendra. His search for spiritual peace seems to have reached much the same conclusion as I am headed towards, tho perhaps within a different structure. Political and/or issues-based subject matter, mainly left-leaning such as David Sedaris, Al Franken, Michael Moore, Anna Quindlan, Ariana Huffington and Molly Ivins (and anything on her recommended reading list be it commentary, nonfiction, fiction, or children's books) tho O'Rielly is good for a giggle and as fodder for an indignant rant. Also, I am quite the cookbook junkie, have read all the Harry Potter books and eagerly await the next installment, spent the Hurricane Rita power outage devouring trashy pulp from Nora Roberts, enjoy the occasional biography, anthology, bit of history or philosophy, and have a keen interest in children's literature. I find 99% of poetry is self-indulgent over-sentimental tripe though.

I am sometimes frighteningly, intimidatingly intelligent, but I lack common sense.
I adore rich vocabulary, maths delight me, and my knowledge of useless facts is astounding, but I'm hopeless when it comes to keeping my life in order.
Mostly, I lead the mundane life of stay at home mom. Although, watching my children learn and grow and be children is often far from mundane.
I never knew you could sled down stairs in a laundry basket!
I had NO idea how difficult it was to remove an entire tube of toothpaste from the curly blonde locks of a wiggly toddler.
I didn't know a tree frog said 'a-rabbit! a-rabbit' when it led a charge as general of a frog army.
I never even considered the appeal of dumping entire bottles of ketchup out on the living room floor, but watching it happen (in that moment right before yelling insued)it sure did look like fun!

Have a glorious birthday! In this year, you will be able to say that you helped the network of efficiency, accountability and innovation expand to fill the world, and that its result was a natural peace.
