   About whitechapel
whitechapel
After working together for five years Bassist/Keyboardist Eric Pollarine and Singer Guitarist Ben Childs decided to start recording. Their love of 80's new wave and synth pop produced three songs"Love goes", "Loss of Movement" , and"In Dreams". Recorded in Erics' basement and with no budget the self titled "ep" was enough of a catalyst for the two that they soon decided to start working on a live show together. The fall of 2004 saw the addition of Nathan Tomasch. Oct 16th 2004 was the first show by the now permanently stalled band. The Venue was "the Tower" a artsy loft that held underground/ indie shows. The 10 people that showed up to see Whitechapel play the four songs they had ,Most would remember them as " a drunken trainwreck of a band with shit sound and balls to spare" . Soon after they would be permaneltly banned from "the Tower". the band could care less ...an attitude that would be the trademark of almost two more years. Whitechapel was on the path to becoming the best band in cleveland( a vision shared by Cleveland Scene staff writer DX Ferris) Whitechapel went in to the studio in the winter of 04, recorded at Strangelove Studio ..."under a grey sky" was released in Jan. of 05 . With positive reviews and touted as "one hell of a debut" Whitechapel felt unstoppable , it wasn't until the summer of 05 that they had a chance to take a break from the constant playing that would also become a staple of the band. Following the release we see the live album 02102005 start to show up on their merch table recorded live at the Grog Shop it was the bands first attempt at capturing the raw power and drunken swagger they had developed as their signature. July saw them return to the studio to produce another three song "ep" this time entitled "One". Fall was upon the band who then recieved a nod as the best "Retro New Wave" band in Cleveland. Playing a marathon of shows often two shows in one night the schedule was starting to wear on them. Jan 06 the band recieved what some would see as one of the best compliments ever by local media a full page interview in Scene. Jan 11th 2006 saw the show that was to be one of their finest. The grind of constant shows had finally taking it's final toll by early spring the band was on hold . "we wanted to write more material ...the set was getting stale" In the early summer of 06 they stalled. Nothing new has been scheduled for the band as of Today. "We wanted to move on do seperate things... work on other projects" The band never officially put on a last show , nor have they announced that they were "breaking up" which should give us all hope.
