The White Crocodile is a rare and wonderful beast.
JULIE BIEREYE Singer, accordionist and actress and founder of the band Julie
was born in England and grew up on the road with Footsbarn Travelling Theatre;
a nomadic life, crisscrossing the world, with caravans and Shakespeare.
Her music is the result of these endless journeys and meetings with remarkable people.
NICOLAS DEGUILHEM Singer, composition and multi- instrumentalist.
Nicolas joined the band in 2008, bringing with him his talents of improvisation and arrangement.
His gift for melodic composition and harmony quickly took the band to a new level.
Together the duo created a repertoire of imaginary folk music and modern song for the body and mind.
DOMINIQUE CHANTELOUP Percussionist and clarinetist.
Dominique, the newest member, mixes in with his rhythms and the fullness of his bass clarinet.
To see the White Crocodile perform is a joyful experience built on good music and contact with the public.
The english songs that tell stories inspired by life experience and of the power of nature were written by JULIE BIEREYE and DAVID JOHNSTON

The White Crocodile est à l'origine le projet de Julie Biereye :
chanteuse, accordéoniste, comédienne, "enfant de la balle",
comme on dit de ces êtres dont l'expérience artistique très précoce
et dense accompagne toute une vie...
Née en Angleterre, elle a grandi sur la route, entre la caravane familiale et
les scènes du célèbre Footsbarn Travelling Theater,
à l'univers nomade , shakespearien, cosmopolite et profondément musical.
Les musiques de tradition orale, les rencontres,
glanées au cours des voyages forgent son chant et son répertoire
autant que la culture anglo-saxonne.
Elle crée à Paris un groupe
mêlant musiques traditionnelles et compositions en anglais de David Jonhston:
"songwriter" et ancien membre du Footsbarn.
Elle participe à la création de musiques de théâtre...
Au printemps 2008 elle rencontre Nicolas Deguilhem :
chanteur musicien poly-instrumentiste, au parcours éclectique
allant du rock initial à la formation classique,
des musiques traditionnelles aux musiques improvisées.
Au grès de ses créations et rencontres,
il esquisse une manière de folklore musical imaginaire,
sans délaisser l'art de la chanson.
Leurs voix et univers s'apprivoisent.
Ils partagent le goût des chants qui transportent vers un ailleurs,
et une certaine idée du folk et de la musique populaire.
La musique est ainsi composée par David jonhston et Nicolas Deguilhem ,
les textes sont de Julie Biereye et de David Jonhston.
le duo devient très vite trio en faisant appel à un pilier rythmique : Dominique Chanteloup, percussionniste de longue date et clarinettiste.
Les chansons en anglais du "Crocodile Blanc" mettent en scène des personnages
inspirés d'expériences vécues, content des trajets de vie nomade,
esquissent des sensations plus floues,
ou prennent une dimension intemporelle lorsqu'elles invoquent la nature.
Elles se déclinent comme les scènes successives d'un "road movie" musical,
(le nom du groupe vient d'un long métrage de Pascal Reneric).
Comme une invitation à une traversée des climats:
de la respiration intime jusqu'aux souffles des grands espaces,
tout un programme...
