Anything that's not passive. I like the stains on the surface of reality.
Music
Not a fan of lists... I love electronic, experimental music, film soundtracks but anything from hardcore punk to opera music will do if it's done with passion.
Movies
Toughest to list. Would feel like a fool breaking such a thing down to a few titles. Well, will be a fool and list some top faves : Suspiria, Stalker, The Holy Mountain, Salo, In The Realm Of The Senses, Day Of The Dead, The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead, Manhunter, Idi Amin Dada, More, Barfly, Haxan, Tenebrae, Deep Red, Opera, Black Sabbath, Bloody Bird, Martin, Dawn Of The Dead, Night Of The Living Dead, Dellamorte, Dellamore, Arrivederci Amore Ciao, Lisa And The Devil, Hatchet For A Honeymoon, Santa Sangre, Crimes Of Passion, The Devils, Performance, White Of The Eye, The Wicker Man (Original), The Ninth Configuration, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (74), Nosferatu (Herzog), The Thing (82), Prince Of Darkness, Le Mépris, Titicut Follies, Grey Gardens, Aguirre The Wrath Of God, Apocalypse Now, Burden Of Dreams, Cannibal Holocaust, Blade Runner, Videodrome, Chamanka, Possession, Macbeth (Polanski), The Tenant, Blue Velvet, Fire Walk With Me, Dead Ringers, Psycho 3, Crash (Cronenberg), Lost Highway, La Soufrière, Heart Of Glass, Stroszek, Tetsuo, Italian Horror / Giallo in general etc... You get the drift, way too many to mention, that's not even scratching the surface. Also really love lots of the films my friends have done, which is a good feeling.
Television
Easier to list. The Prisoner, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Big Love, Dexter etc...
Books
JG Ballard, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Bukowski etc...
Heroes
Hard to say. Heroes are smoke and mirrors in my opinion. That said, I think quite a lot of people are rather decent.
About me:
Right, so I'm finally giving in to this My Space enigma after being told innumerable times that a modern existence is impossible without it. Well, damn it, consider me existing in this world that doesn't exist now!
I work in the movies, having written and directed a few of them such as SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY, LA DERNIÈRE VOIX (THE CITY WITHOUT WINDOWS), ASCENSION and the latest one, LA BELLE BÊTE (THE BEAUTIFUL BEAST). I also work as a screenwriter, having co-wrote Nacho Cerda's THE ABANDONED amongst others; and as a cinematographer on my pictures and for other directors, on such projects as Gilles Paquet-Brenner's WALLED IN (which was unfortunately completely re-cut by the film's American producers and released in a version that removed the entire point of the story, leaving only confused exposition scenes with unfinished color timing) and the teaser trailer for Douglas Buck's THE BROKEN IMAGO along with many others...
Beyond making the damn things, I love all that has to do with subversive and radical filmmaking, art, literature, music etc...
Movies may be a lie created from light and sound, but I'm a sucker for having the rug pulled out from under my feet with a little malicious flicker...
NEW! - For those interested, here is a Cinematographer / Director DEMO REEL from 2008. It's a bit out-dated now and longer than most demos, but it gives you an idea. Image resolution is unfortunately low due to the length of the file.
These are trailers for some of my previous work...
NEW! - This is the Canadian trailer for LA BELLE BÊTE (The Beautiful Beast), a movie I directed, photographed, co-produced and co-wrote that was released in 2006. The Region 1 Canadian DVD is distributed by Warner Home Video (easily available on Amazon.ca) and it is currently the only version with English Sub-Titles. The movie has also come out in various other countries on DVD. This is a better quality upload of the trailer than what was previously seen on this site.
NEW! - This is a clip from LA BELLE BÊTE (The Beautiful Beast).
A trailer for LA BELLE BÊTE's MAKING OF, done by Pat Tremblay, available on the Canadian DVD of the film and the Scandinavian one.
Here is the American trailer for Nacho Cerda's THE ABANDONED, a movie I co-wrote with him and Richard Stanley. In my opinion none of the trailers ever fully captured the quality and melancholy feeling of the final product, a movie that I love very much (they also used very bad temp music, thankfully not in the movie and not at all representative of the film's sonic landscape). Oh well, here goes...
NEW! - This is the teaser trailer for my project FILTHY that we shot in early 2008. Produced by the great folks at Mondo Macabro. It's an absurd comedy about a bourgeois woman who develops a rather particular fetish...
Here is the crazy Japanese trailer for my first feature film SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY. By the way, this stuff is, like much of what I do, not for everyone... Especially this one!
And here's the international trailer for SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY, which is longer and is more representative of the film's pacing... Again, not for all tastes!
Here's a clip from my second feature film ASCENSION, since there was never a proper trailer made for the movie (long story). This movie won the New Visions Award at the 2003 Sitges International Film Festival in Spain. There is a nice Special Edition 2 Disc set of this film released in Scandinavia by Njuta Films and Another World Entertainment. It can be easily found by import, even on Amazon.com.
NEW! - Here is the teaser trailer for Douglas Buck's THE BROKEN IMAGO, that I shot as a cinematographer in June 2008. We shot on Super-35mm and actually had the luxury of finishing it as an anamorphic 35mm print. Please watch the HQ version.
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone who's generous enough to meet the likes of me, of course...
