The name Whitehaven was taken from a famous Australian beach to which all three members have travelled. An exact genre would be difficult to put a finger on however they enjoy dabbling in all kinds of Rock, Ska, Punk and Indie. With a style and pizzazz unique to themselves they continue to raise the bar in their standards and grow as a band and as a sound.
Hailing from near Bath in the UK they formed in June 2005. Their passion for music and playing their instruments plus the fact that they have all been friends since school has lead to an explosive but tight knit recipe for the band.
The band consists of four members; Tupps, drums, Jonno, bass, Timmy, guitar and backing vocals and Pagey, guitar and lead vocalist.
Tupps is an energetic character both on and off stage. He has dedication to his craft having played drums for over ten years. He also has experience having played with several other bands including Resin, Mono Inyo and more recently A House Atlantic. He is ofetn singled out for his ferrocious style of play and will soon be featuring in Rythym Magazine.
Pagey has no previous experience in a band, he has however been playing guitar for over 5 years and has upon forming the band discovered a fondness and talent for penning a lyric or two. He has since gone on to perform a handful of acoustic solo gigs.
Jonno is the chilled relaxed member of the band (as every bassist seems to be!) who just loves playing for anyone and everyone. His soul, style and passion shine through in every live show he plays and he continues to challenge himself with progressively more complex basslines at every opportunity.
Timmy is the newest addition to the quartet. Having originally joined the band back in the summer of 2006 he left to go travelling befroe returning to the fray fresh and full of energy. He has slowly taken on the mantle of the lead guitarist whilst still providing killer harmonies in all the right places.
Since their formation in the summer of ’05 much time has been spent in the studio near their Chippenham home building a distinctive and melodic repertoire of tunes and forming a dynamic and entertaining live act. Their songs range from the funky ska tones of ‘One Night Stand’ to the racey anxst of 'Vanilla Sky' and cover everything in between. Their musical ideology simple; Play songs they love to play and people love to hear.
With hard work and creativity they gelled together and formed a formidable quartet throwing in new tunes at every given chance. The band continue to rise in stature and sound and 2009 looks set to an exciting new year full of new recordings and bigger gigs.
