About me:

Tuesday 26th August
1am Secret Guests!
RaRaRiot + The Joy Formidable + The Molotovs
It's a game of two halves this one. First half is all indie guitars and soaring
bits. The second half features easily identified secret guests from Canada.
Basically it's going to get really scary later on but early it'll be quite
nice and pleasant.

Hanggai Live
Sometimes White Heat does some slightly strange things. Arguably booking a
traditional Mongolian folk band could be included in amongst those strange
things. Arguably though they're basically pretty amazing and snuggle beautifully
into our slightly leftfield music policy. Arguably. Pitchfork say: "Sometimes,
an album takes you so by surprise that it takes days to get your mind around
just how much you like it. Hanggai's debut was like that for me-- this record
floored me the first time I played it. Simply described, this album takes
traditional Mongolian folk music and instrumentation and projects them into
a loosely rock-based structure. This is not really a folk album, though it
sometimes has the feel of one. Producers Robin Haller and Matteo Scumaci,
Westerners both, allow the band to straddle the folk and pop worlds, creating
something new and exhilarating in the process." They gave it an Eight.

A month of local talent
And here starts our month of British bands. After the Americans, Kiwis, Chinese
[Mongolians] and everyone else (French, Swedes, Norwegians, Japanese, Canadians,
Spaniards, Italians...) of the last few months we're turning to the locals
to remind us that we can still make weird pop, strange noise, intricate folk
and everything in between.

Heartsrevolution late night show! Frankie Chan
of IHEARTCOMIX Guest DJ!
Black Affair + The Oscillation
Black affair was birthed by Steve Mason: he of Beta Band and associated infamy
"It veers towards the sinister soundscaping of Depeche Mode and the synth-addled
tendencies of The Human League" say Drowned in Sound. The Oscillation
meanwhile take shoegaze, krautrock and plenty of other influences and make
something else. Have a listen.

Johnny Foreigner + Dananananaykroyd + William
Drowned in Sound are big fans of these guys and are sponsoring the gig too.
Here's what they have to say:
JOHNNY FOREIGNER... Take all your favourite parts of brain-sizzling
indie past - Kinsella twists and Pavement riffs, intelligent lyricism and
catchy melodies - and meld them with pop's imminent future: punchy percussion
and streamlined synths, sing-along choruses and heavy-duty hooks. The Birmingham-based
trio's debut album 'Waited Up 'Til It Was Light' ranks among 2008's best,
and was shortlisted for DiS's inaugural Pluto Prize.
DANANANANAYKROYD... Scottish sensations lighting up stages
wherever they go; a whirling sextet full of flailing limbs and screaming throats,
clap-along breakdowns and euphoric highs. Picture in your mind the best party
imaginable, bodies packed tight and sweaty, everybody smiles: without even
trying, you've pictured your standard Dana gig, minus the delightful hairs-on-end
heat and torrentially exuded energy.

BANDS! You can't add White Heat on Myspace because there are just too many
bands to get through! If you want a gig, want us to release your record, or want
to be friends with White Heat send an email to demos@whiteheatmayfair.com and
include the following:
- Band details (Name, where you're
from, Website/Myspace address etc.)
- Other bands you look up to/love/are
influenced by.
- Attach Two (or one) MP3(s)
Don't simply put a list of who you're
managed by, who's doing the press, who played it on the radio, how you're cool...
Because basically we don't care! We just want to know what you sound like!
