  • Bio

The White Horse Folk Club started some years ago as the Seagrave Folk Workshop run by John McDonald and Erik Bellamy and gave many musicians and singers the confidence to perform in public for the first time. Keith Phelpstead took over from John when he moved on and the club ran until a couple of years ago when the pub closed for extensive reburbishment. It is now run by Gemma Rumbold and Paul Hammond who are from the village itself making it a real local pub. The locals were keen to get the club re-opened and we now run on a monthly basis on the LAST THURSDAY of the month starting at 8.30. We no longer run as a workshop but as a FOLK NIGHT, but we interpret folk in its broadest sense and welcome traditional, country, Irish, tunes, poetry - anything acoustic in fact. The evening is usually a bit of a Heinz 57. The content of the evening is really down to whoever turns up! At the moment the sessions are run by Dave and Julia Taylor and we have a core of regulars from the old club who have come back plus some new faces. Seagrave is north of Leicester off the A46 Six Hills Road, the pub being in Church Street. Please come along to sing/play or just listen. Have a listen to the samples! The contact for the pub is:- 01509 814715 Contact for music:- Dave/Julia: 0116 2871895 0771 1996210 Dave@acorn4.demon.co.uk

  4. White Horse Folk

Probably the best singaround/session since Julia and I started running the White Horse - a packed room, great standard of music and some surprise guests from Brighton who did some great songs for us.

The Paul Metsers gig was a great success. A full room and Paul was delighted by the response. As a result he's been booked for next year's Moira Furnace Folk Festival. We hope to announce another gig inn the function room shortly.
