SMALL-TOWN BAND WITH A BIG FUTURE: (& THE FUTURE IS VERY BRIGHT FOR WHITE LABEL)
LIGHTWEIGHT BUT INFECTIOUS Weston-super-Mare band WHITE LABEL, who state on their website that they “Won’t stop until they’re six feet under” are proving just that and climbing the ladder of music success.
Already having had some tracks from their first EP Half Cut- The first Six played on North Somerset’s Star FM, they are becoming an established and popular sight on the South West music circuit. Waterboys Legend Mike Scott has even given praise to the group, saying they have “plenty of edge, attitude and a paint-stripping guitar sound”.
Listening to their Demo Album/EP their influences are immediately apparent, from Motley Crue, The Manics, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Oasis, yet WHITE LABEL still have their own distinctive edge and creative ability making for an original and inimitable sound; Through My Eyes draws on Oasis and Brit-pop of the 90’s. Hangman and Saturday Girl boast a Hint of the fun-punk of The Undertones fused with fun lyrics of recent long-established bands like Silversun. Six Feet Under with heavy guitar and drums is WHITE LABEL’s 80’s rock. WHITE LABEL’s songs, already ‘Anthems’ in the eyes of their loyal fan base are easy to listen to with memorable lyrics and catchy hooks, yet not detracting from their raw, unique sound. They have a great flair for song arrangement and structure and pepper their songs with wit and a hint of tragedy.
Lead Vocalist Martyn Hawkes demonstrates the versatility to perform the gritty numbers as well as the soft melancholy for songs like Through My Eyes (actually Russ sings most of through my eyes - ed) and guitarists Matt and Russ Barnes, Peter Fealey and Drummer Andy Girling are fabulously charismatic.
The future is very bright for WHITE LABEL; who are fast becoming a ‘singles’ act, with every song becoming an instant classic. If they can live up to their promise of producing quality sounds then I am sure their fans will live up to theirs:
