"It takes a lot of gumption for an Austin band to take the name of the city’s most notorious killer, but Whitman isn’t out to raise hackles: Although the group’s angular, propulsive rock has considerable bite, the radio-ready vocal hooks and soothing whorls of organ suggest that its intention is to get fists, not blood pumping." - The Onion

"The Evangelist" Whitman
"Irresistible track from an Austin band whose idea of rock defies the trends and reaps the rewards." -Bill Forman, Colorado Springs Independent
"Whitman trades off the type of riffs and rhythms that made Spoon a big deal" - Austin Monthly
“Good song writing. I feel that you are telling a real life story to a friend. The quality of your life is coming out in your music… Although not really hard rock, there is a driving quality to your sound” -Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction
"Very solid playing. “The Drifter” is a Nice driving rock tune reminiscent of Arcade Fire and countless UK bands from the ‘80s. Bravo!" -Doug Brod, Editor of SPIN
"I prefer “For Heaven Sake”, (I) appreciate the philosophical bent to the lyrics. I like the crunchiness of the music. Nice one." -Tim Kasher of Cursive
"Simply put, this quartet makes driving rock music. Sure, it features some nice harmonies and crisp, layered arrangements, but deep down they're songs you just want to turn up loud and look cool doing it." -Austin Sound
"There are whorls, and simple ranging guitar parts to exploding emotional rock opus areas, this never leaves the listener bored, not once. ...It had us air drumming and heads nodding" -Crooked Camera (Minneapolis, MN)
Whitman is an indie rock band from Austin, Texas that has worked to establish the perfect blend of catchy melodies and loud, biting rock and roll. A mix of narrative songwriting, driving guitars, ever shifting backing beats, and haunting organ whorls create the quartet’s signature sound. Fueled by an endless thirst for adventure and hard-working persistence, Whitman has steadily toured the nation creating a base of dedicated fans and friends. After the release of 2008’s “Torch Songs,” the band returned to the studio to record “The Culdesac Demos,” a five-song collection that captures the group’s independent spirit and raucous live shows.

We're playing at Red Eyed Fly this Thursday night and could really use your support. We're bringing our friends The Cardinal Health (awesome band!) from San Antonio and we want as many friendly faces there to welcome them to Austin as possible. So come no later than 9pm, tell them your there to see us and stick around for our show and The Cardinal Health and all the other excellent bands! (The band at 8pm is pretty awesome too, so you might as well come then). See you there!
