and The Incredible Heat Machine
and I ran a little record label called Suckapunch Records with my buddy Mike. I love music and zombies and giant pizzas and girls and booze and shitty sunglasses and all kinds of sweet stuff. If you knew me, we'd probably have lots of things to talk about.
I like going out and staying in and playing music; jamming for no reason; recording bad acoustic demos through the mic inside my computer; writing music columns for local zines; revelling in the unpredictability of my life and friends' lives, drinking at bars, being on tour, drinking at home, feeling small, going on adventures, being drunk enough to really dance, holding hands, road trips, small shows, Knickerbockers, working on guitars and basses, fixing old drum kits, soup, grilling out with Matty, Saber and my friends, playing shows, good monitor mixes, high-speed internet, anticipation, truck stop corn dogs, bachelor-style cooking, coca-cola, telecasters, 14th and New Hampshire (aka Frank and Beans), destruction, grilled potatoes, whiskey night, tube amps, my room, artwork I cant take my eyes off of (Ben Hike, Dubtronic, Ryan Connolly), house shows and good parties, birthdays, thunderously loud guitars, the hard-core make-out, shotguns, falling in love, being in love, and the masochistic, self-depricating side of falling out of it.
Music
This is becoming more and more of a philosophical question as I get older.
Music is expression and expression is inherently good. Even if youre playing songs written by others, playing is cathartic. It feels good. Until it becomes tainted by money and greed and politics, music and expression remains innocent and meaningful and important. There's a Propagandhi song that goes something like this, "Music is power to describe, compel, renew," and I believe that. I like music that that sounds and feels this way. Describing my musical taste that way doesnt rule much out, but you wont find me listening to the radio.
Movies
Shawshank Redemption, Crash, American Beauty, Resident Evil, American History X, The Life of David Gale, Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Evil Dead (series), Indiana Jones (series), Back to the Future (series), Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, The Exorcist... zombie movies new and old.
Lots more. I dont think about these sorts of things.
Television
The History Channel. A&E. Animal Planet. CSI, Law and Order. Whatever my dad is watching when I visit my folks and the cute red-haired girl from Mythbusters.
Books
You know, I had a really long write-up in here about "The Big Sea" by Langston Hughes, and I just reread it and realized it sucked. Depite a degree in English I just seem to glaze over half the things I write down. I blame the whiskey. So here: Read that book. When you come to the part that reads, "Maybe dreams do come true and books do write themselves," think about how destitute poor or screwed youve ever been, and how nice it would be to realize in that moment that destitute poor and screwed are key parts of the life youve always wanted. :) Pretty cool. I am writing this while stranded on the ass end of a JVA tour that led us up into the mountains during a snowstorm. We're pretty much snowed into a small town in Wyoming. Good time for a revision, eh?
Heroes
Fat Mike, Virgil Dickerson, Mike Park, Avi from Springman, people who have the focus and drive to succeed no matter what mountains are in front of them; people who sacrifice; people who dont give up; people who do what they have to do for the sake of someone else; young people who work hard to get what they've got; my parents and brother and sisters, and my friends who inspire me to write better songs.

In 2006 JVA released "Girls Forget Your Boys..." in Japan with three bonus tracks. The record did well, and for that we are very thankful and happy. The new record is done and will be released in the states and in Japan in March and April. We have a pre-release record out now called "Zoom!!!" which you can find at the JVA myspace. It's 6 songs from 'Girls.." and 6 from "Take Me Back To Spectre," the new album. It has 3 unreleased bonus tracks too! They are limited edition, hand-numbered, and only available from the band. You can mailorder one if you want, or just see us at a show. :)
Good With Guns finished our new record in the summer of 2007. Craig went on tour with Maria Taylor and played keys and guitar with her in the fall, so the GWG record is slow at being released. We've been working on this one for a while, and have nearly everything we need. I think we are waiting on a final mix from Ian and then mastering. The final version is 14 tracks or so, and its something we are all very proud of. We'll get it out as soon as possible for those of you who are waiting on us. :)
The Incredible Heat Machine recorded a demo in the basement right when the band began about a year and a half ago. Having 6 people in a band can be a pain in the ass, and really helpful -- all at once. :) It took us some time, but we just recently put out an 8 song EP titled "Limited Edition." You can get that online through the myspace or just listen and check out the band. For those of you who are interested, think cute, fun, ska/reggae with two lead female vocalists. Side note: I have to wear a suit in this band. Blech. :)

Who I'd like to meet: Big badass CD release coming up! Then tour times. Get out to this and help us hit the ground running!
Ahem... Who Id like to meet: A girl who can love me and still hang with my awesome friends. People who like music and people who dont. People who arent afraid to dance, sing, write, be crazy, awkward, stupid, heroic, fucked-up, and (or) brilliant. People who work hard and hang out harder. Aaron from Fumescrew. Yoshi from Trolley Bus Records in Japan. People who are smarter than their lot in life, and a bunch of people you may not know or may have never heard about.
Come home to us already, Hot Dog! We miss you, love you, and need your meaty goodness in our lives!!
We jammed out that new one today with harmonies and everything and it sounds SICK. You are going to shit your plaid pants :)
And, we made an executive decision that since Alex won't be touring with us, we are going to instead be playing his parts on stage...with KAZOOS. Serious. Get ready. :)

I have come to the conclusion that so many people love you that by the time your actual birthday comes around you will have too many comments to sift out mine then read and appriciate it.
My solution: Give you your birthday comment now so it will be special.

Happy birthday.
