It's hard to say what the Fish sound like - some people say the Velvet Underground gone Cajun, others say Van Morrison gone Klezmer.......but really it's the strangest melange of musicians who each embody the different styles of music they make. Then they come together as a band. It's weird and rare. Some amazing singers and musicians deliver an unforgetable night (or day or whenever) of kicking folk with a positive attitude that inspires people to get off their bums, dance, have some fun and just let themselves go.
You'll end up saying that it sounds like..........
the Wholesome Fish.
Cheers.
One of the things that makes the Fish stand out are the songs.....as it stands now there are up to 7 singers......and they play instruments like the fiddle, banjo, accordian, harmonica, guitar, whistle, sax, jew's harp, mandolin, mbira, every type of percussion, but particularly triangle, darabuka and tambourine, bodhran, kazoo, didgeridoo, bouzouki, bass guitar and drum kit. Then they write original music or take influences from celtic and gypsy-rooted folk through cajun and klezmer to rockabilly country blues & punk. Wholesome Fish create music to dance to.
The band have played festivals and venues, big and small, in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland and Czech Republic, supporting the Pogues, Transglobal Underground, and Jah Wobble along the way. More recently the band have been on the bill with Eliza Carthy, The Baghdaddies, Kitty Daisy and Lewis and Go Lem System. Veteran performers on the Glastonbury Blaggers’ stages and after-show parties, Rory McLeod once joined the band on trombone and John Peel broadcast a fishy knees-ups live at 4am!
Spreading dance-floor mayhem wherever they go, Wholesome Fish are a life-enhancing experience for anyone who hears them! They are currently available for gigs, festivals, weddings and parties.
From Folk to Funk, from Pop to Punk........The Wholesome Fish.
Hope to see you at a gig soon.
With love - the fish xxxx

hey there Fishies, Thought I'd mention you guys should get yourselves an account on last.fm http://www.last.fm/ It's a bit like a cooler myspace and you can upload your free tracks and also short samples of the new recordings (excited!) for people to listen to. It's cool, and users can play a web radio station of tracks that are similar to the ones they listen to ( the user installs a bit of software that tracks what you play on your compter or ipod...). Anyhow, it's another great way to find listeners... I am here http://www.last.fm/user/loothi as an example. :-) Hope the mixing goes well!!
