Sounds Like
It's hard to say what the Fish sound like - some people say the Velvet Underground gone Cajun, others say Van Morrison gone Klezmer, but there is far more to it than that...A big fat wall of acoustic instruments with some amazing singers and harmonies delivered with a positive attitude that inspires people to dance, have some fun and really let themselves go.
You'll end up saying that it sounds like
Wholesome Fish.
Cheers
With a raucous blend of traditional instruments (fiddle, banjo and guitar)
underpinned by a cooking rhythm section, Wholesome Fish create music to dance to. Their influences are whatever takes their fancy – from Celtic and gypsy-rooted folk through to rockabilly country blues & punk.
The band have played festivals and venues, big and small, in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland and Czech Republic, supporting the Pogues, Transglobal Underground, and Jah Wobble along the way. More recently the band have been on the bill with Eliza Carthy, The Baghdaddies, Kitty Daisy and Lewis and Go Lem System. Veteran performers on the Glastonbury Blaggers’ stages and after-show parties, Rory McLeod once joined the band on trombone and John Peel broadcast a fishy knees-ups live at 4am!
Spreading dance-floor mayhem wherever they go, Wholesome Fish are a life-enhancing experience for anyone who hears them!
Hope to see you at a gig soon.
With love - the fish xxxx

hey there Fishies, Thought I'd mention you guys should get yourselves an account on last.fm http://www.last.fm/ It's a bit like a cooler myspace and you can upload your free tracks and also short samples of the new recordings (excited!) for people to listen to. It's cool, and users can play a web radio station of tracks that are similar to the ones they listen to ( the user installs a bit of software that tracks what you play on your compter or ipod...). Anyhow, it's another great way to find listeners... I am here http://www.last.fm/user/loothi as an example. :-) Hope the mixing goes well!!
hi everyone, I had such a lovely evening on the folk train with you all.
what a gig !!
hope you all got home okay' I'll let you know when I've edited the piece out and its ready for the radio.
in the meantime I won't forget pulling into sheffield with most of the carriage singing anarchy in the uk and those who didn't know the words clapped along.
Come along to the festival this Saturday and Sunday, it is NOT to be missed, we're making history right here this summer, a festival for the people, by the people! Wholesome Fish will be performing at the festival so be there...
Hey folks, we've got some new tracks up on Art for Lands Sake - come and have a listen!!
Rory McLeod 'Defending Our Homes' - voted Best Live Act at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2002, a tour de force of British folk storytelling. 'Defending...' should be heard and rejoiced by all!
Stanton Delaplane 'Melpomene, Her Tragedy' - Bristol-residing songwriter with loop pedal and a lilting charm offensive means I can't stop listening to this track. I'm sure this guy's going on to bigger things!
Papa Chubbs 'She's Like A River' - I don't know too much about these guys other than this sounds like a song recorded by a band who've been around for years recording with people in expensive studios and I know that's not the case which makes this track all the more beguiling indeed!
krafla 'Synthesised People Cheering' - A project by two gentlemen called Simon Fox and Steve Hough, who may both be better known for recordings with Grover, Godflesh, Einstellung, James Summerfield and others, and released on Bearos Records and Static Caravan, it is no surprise this song kills in a gorgeous mixture of instrumentation and electronics kinda way. Barry Hogan of All Tomorrow's Parties is a fan, as am I!
Great music for your ears, buying land for future generations to enjoy, everyone's a winner!
Remember to come check us out at Big Green Gathering - we'll be in the Sustainable Homes section with some bongos, a revolving parasol and maybe a cake!
