one LP what got alot've play while I was gone was the debut by Whose Yor Favorite Son, God? & man is it a keeper! See'em live down to SXSW was great, but the record fans the flames of hybridized (post)Prog-swoggle & (proto) Metal-mania like just about nobody else. What w/this talk about brain transplants 'n all, WYFSG? could almost be described as a union of Magma (mind) & MX-80 Sound (matter). I don't know about you, but I was jonesin to hear somethin SCREAMIN after 'Crowd Conrol' (to no avail) & hey, if Christian Zander had kidnapped Rich Stim & Bruce Anderson, perhaps 'Attahk' might've sounded as rad as this album. WYFSG? ably combine the dramatic & operatic pretense of Magma w/the cool, aggressive delivery of MX-80 Sound & if your thinkin 'that's somethin I gotta hear' your right. My Mom (remember her?) says they sound like Mahavishnu Orchestra should've if they were MEN (once you hear this you'll know what she means). Even the little Greek dude who delivers my beer opined "everything that Heavy The World isn't, Whose Your Favorite Son, God? IS". And who am I to argue w/a Greek? They invented civilization buster! What have you ever done?

It is beginning to actually feel like summer here in Salt Lake City (knock on wood) with snow only falling once every other week or so. Seriously though, for all the Godliness of this place, you would think that we might be able to manage a more consistent weather pattern. Fortunately, Who’s Your Favorite Son, God? is here to manage my temperament rain or shine. Bleating and contorting through their manic, blistering debut on Holy Mountain (after The Julie Mittens I just couldn’t leave HM down for long), Out of Body Diva, is the perfect mind scrambling blitzkriegery with which to reboot to. Chaotic and surging in and out of cohesiveness, WYFSG is impulsive in all the right ways. Improvisationally hectic enough to have you verging on a full body melt down, but right-minded enough to reign you in just before the impending collapse with jagged riffs and gilded hooks. I listen to my fare share of ADHD, spazzed out noise rock, but somehow WYFSG manage to avoid comparisons and are all the better for it. For its short time span, listening to Out of Body Diva is surprisingly exhausting. Like, ‘you’ll physically collapse after listening to it’ exhausting. Seems WYFSG know exactly how far they can push it with their mind altering clatter. Out of Body Diva is a rockin’ exorcism of the highest variety.

I'm much anticipating that second LP from you dudes. I recorded the KDVS broadcast in 2007 and caught the studio track "Who do you think you aren't" at the beginning, so I know there's something!
This beautiful super-heavyweight LP, which comes packaged in a sweet full-colour sleeve reunites the UK's premier free drummer Alex Neilson, who's played, amongst others, with Motor Ghost, Directing Hand, Trembling Bells, Tight Meat Duo, Josephine Foster, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jandek, MV&EE, Richard Youngs, Baby Dee and Alastair Galbraith, with Nmperign member Greg Kelley, whose reinvention of the trumpet is as crucial now as Anthony Braxton's reinvention of the sax was 30 years ago. A screeching, soaring, scattergun array of noises come maniacally out of Greg's horn, unlike anything we've ever heard and, with the addition of random stabs of electronics, he successfully straddles no wave, concrete and free jazz in a way that makes those genres seem like trite pigeonholes.
