My name is Maartje (Marjorie Calder) and I have been singing for twenty four years. Influenced by all music, I started singing in a professional youth choir at age twelve. Western Conservatory followed along with chamber and jazz choirs. Once in Post Secondary, I joined a Bulgarian Choir and then was sucked into the world of the Bar Band.
My first Bar band was already existing when I was approached by them. I had attended school with two of the members and it was a fluke that we all seemed to click. That band was SEAL BOMBER and we played regularly around the Lower Mainland. When we finally got played on CFOX, the band broke up and we eventually got a new guitarist and drummer. This incarnation became RITALIN and soon changed to Identity Crisis for obvious reasons.
My next Band experience was with the same keyboardist. He started a new project called PORN ON BETA. I became a back up singer and Guitarist and this band grew to five members. In 2003 I became pregnant with my daughter Mars and ended up calling it quits for travel reasons. That band has since gone on with three members and is doing very well. They are regulars on RANT RADIO.
My most recent band prior to this latest project was unnamed for almost two years. Just before we broke up we called ourselves Adjustable Mustard. (That was my favorite name!) We used to practice in my photographic art gallery Aphid Studio on Commercial Street.
This new project is written by myself and I am taking some past lyrics I have written and adding some new to the mix. I am not sure where this will evolve but I think this will be a good outlet to let out my inner techno-head.
I am also currently looking to start an 80's cover band. (to release my inner glam)
