Wicked Automatic is a 4-piece rock band that formed in 2005 and is based out of Hampton Beach, NH. Wicked Automatic’s writing and musical influences include Led Zeppelin, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, The Beatles, The Cure, U2 and The Cult. The four musicians who comprise Wicked Automatic are dedicated and focused on reaching their main goal: to have their music heard by as many people as possible.
Jonathan Anderson is the singer, lyricist and one of the four songwriter’s in the band. He was born in Massachusetts but after finishing college he was drawn into the NH Seacoast’s gravitational pull. He found the diverse local culture a heady brew of ideas and strong, charismatic personalities. Each had a story. It was there in between surfing sessions at “The Wall” that he began to sing and write on a beat up old Yamaha acoustic. Jon worked with a handful of groups through the intervening years but considers Wicked Automatic his “Dream Team”, a band that includes his favorite musicians who also happen to be his closest friends.
Mike O’Neil is the guitarist, songwriter and True Believer. A veritable Riff Van Winkle, Mike’s ideas are the springboard for much of the band’s music. Mike and Jon played in different bands for most of their careers but have shared many stages. Between music and surfing, a strong common bond was forged. They took that bond to the next level when they began collaborating on the songs that have become the core of Wicked Automatic’s catalog.
Brian Scanlon, The Rock Of Gibraltar. First Bass. Brian has played bass for several Seacoast bands throughout the years. Known for his dedication to “serving the song”, He provides the band with a heavy bottom. Simple, unexpected and mesmerizing. Since picking up a bass guitar at the age of twenty, Brian has gained a variety of experience playing in punk, metal and classic rock oriented bands. Although a songwriter in his own right, his key Wicked Automatic contribution lies in arranging.
Mark Davenport hails from Brighton, England, UK, where he earned his degree in music. After falling in love with an American girl from New Hampshire, Mark moved to The U.S. full-time and got married. Mark is an enthusiastic and energetic drummer who plays his kit with missionary zeal. Well versed in a number of different styles, he is a breath of fresh air and powerful new engine for the band. Mark continues his studies while teaching the drums to many young students throughout New England.
The members of Wicked Automatic have entertained at such venues as CBGB and The Elbow Room in New York City, The Paradise and Bill’s Bar in Boston, The Big Easy and The Alehouse in Portland and The Wobbly Barn and Nectar’s in Vermont. In 2008 Wicked Automatic licensed five of their songs to MTV networks for use in programming. 2009 has already seen the signing of several international licensing deals and now they are looking to establish themselves as “the band to see” and develop a devout following in their home base of New England.
