Anwar “Wicked” Shakir is making his mark in the rap game from the ground up; Wicked stepped out into the hip-hop scene at the young age of 12 years old. His talent was validated at the world famous Apollo theater in 1995 by taking home the top spot during one competitive night in Harlem. Wicked, was signed in no time to body bag Entertainment, a Brooklyn based production company distributed by Virgin. Spitting rhymes with venom that very few MC’s could handle-thus the name WICKED. His way with words were soon categorized with iniquitous smiles that very few MC’s can put together. Signing on in 1995 to work on his debut album, Young Wicked worked with the likes of Def jam/Def Squads Eric Sermon, Wu tang Clans/Reakwon & Keith Murray.
After getting caught up in label reorganization at Virgin, Wicked’s career was brought to a startling halt. But not stopping there, he then hooked up with his partner, Keith Scott to own and operate their own business, Diamond Records based out of New Haven, Connecticut. “Keeping my visibility in the street is extremely important”, says Wicked. His rhymes can be heard on the mix tapes of Connecticut’s very Own DJ Big Mike & Springfield Massachusetts' own DJ Scope, New York City’s mix-tape veterans DJ Kay Slay and DJ L.
WICKED is one of the last real mc's who display's real musical / lyrical TALENT!! Opening for the Queen of R&B, Mary J. Blige, Wicked put on a performance of a lifetime at the meadows Lands in Hartford, Connecticut presented by Hot 93.7FM in 2004. Wicked was already kicking up dust and on February 9th, 2005, in the city of New Haven’s top urban station Hot 93.7FM honored Wicked for being a pioneer in Connecticut’s Hip-Hop Community at Toad’s Place. He was nominated as an Award recipient for the 2005 Justo Mix-tape Awards which was held on March 9th, 2005. One of Wicked’s most memorable performances was at The China Club with Funk Master Flex in Manhattan in March 8th, 2007. Wicked performance was hightend do to the intensity of crowd in Manhattan New York he showed that his buzz has definitely traveled through out Connecticut, the Tri-State, and abroad.
He has recently recorded with hot artist like Diplomat Record’s own J.R. Writer, Streetsweepers' Papoose A.L.C/Artist Big Twinz, and most recently Amil. Wicked released (The) New Chapter "Code of the Street Vol.4" with the new hot single "They Wanna Know" featuring Amil. It also included the street banger "Classic Lines" which is being played on numerous mix tapes & mix shows on major radio stations across the world. Earlier this year, Wicked released Code of the Street Vol.5 The Features. This is Wicked's first digital released street album and can be found at Itunes.com Rhapshody.com Amazonmp3.com, emusic.com napster.com ,It includes the motivation single "When It's On" and the summer anthem "Now's The Time". Wicked is currently on tour supporting this release. Over the years, Wicked's catalog has grown to over (200) original songs. Besides recording new music, Wicked has also been recieveing press from online websites such as CollegeDJ.net (the premiere college dj record pool and blog). Not only was Wicked's music accepted on this website, he was interviewed, and discussed his music as well as the state of the industry.
