I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute. ~Rebecca West, "Mr Chesterton in Hysterics: A Study in Prejudice," The Clarion, 14 Nov 1913, reprinted in The Young Rebecca, 1982
The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, "It's a girl." ~Shirley Chisholm

It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less. ~Susan B. Anthony
One of the things about equality is not just that you be treated equally to a man, but that you treat yourself equally to the way you treat a man. ~Marlo Thomas
There are very few jobs that actually require a penis or vagina. All other jobs should be open to everybody. ~Florynce Kennedy
The test for whether or not you can hold a job should not be the arrangement of your chromosomes. ~Bella Abzug
I've yet to be on a campus where most women weren't worrying about some aspect of combining marriage, children, and a career. I've yet to find one where many men were worrying about the same thing. ~Gloria Steinem
Feminism directly confronts the idea that one person or set of people [has] the right to impose definitions of reality on others. ~Liz Stanley and Sue Wise
The world has never yet seen a truly great and virtuous nation because in the degradation of woman the very fountains of life are poisoned at their source. ~Lucretia Mott
To tell a woman everything she may not do is to tell her what she can do. ~Spanish Proverb
Advertisers in general bear a large part of the responsibility for the deep feelings of inadequacy that drive women to psychiatrists, pills, or the bottle. ~Marya Mannes, But Will It Sell?, 1964
Every time we liberate a woman, we liberate a man. ~Margaret Mead
No man is as anti-feminist as a really feminine woman. ~Frank O'Connor
Men weren't really the enemy - they were fellow victims suffering from an outmoded masculine mystique that made them feel unnecessarily inadequate when there were no bears to kill. ~Betty Friedan
Easy is an adjective used to describe a woman who has the sexual morals of a man. ~Nancy Linn-Desmond
Nobody objects to a woman being a good writer or sculptor or geneticist if at the same time she manages to be a good wife, a good mother, good-looking, good-tempered, well-dressed, well-groomed, and unaggressive. ~Marya Mannes
We've begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters. ~Gloria Steinem
There is more difference within the sexes than between them. ~Ivy Compton-Burnett, Mother and Son
Our only hope for the redemption of woman from the thralldom of dress lies in the belief that her hitherto limited sphere of activities has been so insufficient for her intellectual occupations that she has been forced to expend her thoughts in decorating her person, instead of enlarging her mind. ~Mercy B. Jackson
Because women's work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious and we're the first to get fired and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it's our fault and if we get beaten we must have provoked it and if we raise our voices we're nagging bitches and if we enjoy sex we're nymphos and if we don't we're frigid and if we love women it's because we can't get a "real" man and if we ask our doctor too many questions we're neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we're selfish and if we stand up for our rights we're aggressive and "unfeminine" and if we don't we're typical weak females and if we want to get married we're out to trap a man and if we don't we're unnatural and because we still can't get an adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the moon and if we can't cope or don't want a pregnancy we're made to feel guilty about abortion and...for lots of other reasons we are part of the women's liberation movement. ~Author unknown, quoted in The Torch, 14 September 1987
A woman is like a tea bag. It's only when she's in hot water that you realize how strong she is. ~Attributed to both Eleanor Roosevelt and Carl Sandburg

The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn. ~Gloria Steinem
If divorce has increased by one thousand percent, don't blame the women's movement. Blame the obsolete sex roles on which our marriages were based. ~Betty Friedan speech, New York City, January 20, 1974
We've got a generation now who were born with semiequality. They don't know how it was before, so they think, this isn't too bad. We're working. We have our attache' cases and our three piece suits. I get very disgusted with the younger generation of women. We had a torch to pass, and they are just sitting there. They don't realize it can be taken away. Things are going to have to get worse before they join in fighting the battle. ~Erma Bombeck
Women are systematically degraded by receiving the trivial attentions which men think it manly to pay to the sex, when, in fact, men are insultingly supporting their own superiority. ~Mary Wollstonecraft
If the anti-abortion movement took a tenth of the energy they put into noisy theatrics and devoted it to improving the lives of children who have been born into lives of poverty, violence, and neglect, they could make a world shine. ~Michael Jay Tucker
No woman wants an abortion. Either she wants a child or she wishes to avoid pregnancy. ~Author Unknown
Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin
If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament. ~Florynce R. Kennedy, 1973
Abolition of a woman's right to abortion, when and if she wants it, amounts to compulsory maternity: a form of rape by the State. ~Edward Abbey
Seventy-seven percent of anti-abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant. ~Planned Parenthood advertisement
George W. Bush will protect your unborn fetus, then send your grown child to die in war. ~Rick Claro
First and foremost I am a strong-willed and rebellious woman who stands up for the rights of other women and minority groups in general. I'm talking about the gays, lesbians, transgenders, bisexuals, the anti-authority, the people who fight for their civil rights, the anti-religious, etc. This does not imply that I hate men or heterosexuals; it merely states that I look out for those populations that don't always have a voice and/or adequate representation in our society.
I consider myself a crazy, in-your-face feminist and I make it my life goal to redefine what it means to be a feminist in today's fourth wave and to encourage other women to break free from the mold of the patriarchal society and express who they are and were meant to be. Being who I am means conducting myself in an open fashion especially when it comes to the topic of sexuality. I consider myself a very sexual being which means that I'm also an explorer of my own and other people's bodies.
I'm majoring in Psychology (graduated with my B.A. in 2006 and now at the end of my 3rd year towards completing my Masters, afterwhich I plan on attending The Institute For Advanced Study of Human Sexuality to get a Ph.D in sexology and become a sex therapist) and I feed off of any subject that deals with explaining human behavior (especially human SEXUAL behavior). I crave the thrill of explaining why we commit the actions, speak the words, and think the thoughts that we do. One of my life goals for my career would be to devise a model or explanation of human behavior that lands my name in many psychology textbooks to come.
I currently work for the Crossroads Treatment Center which runs 5 group homes for teen girls and although I love the job and it can be rewarding at times, for most part I am called a bitch on a daily basis [but I'm okay with that - training sure does help with that!]. I am also in my second semster of my radio internship that grants me the role of being a DJ for my school's radio station. My alter ego is Lizzy Massacre and the show is "Through the Looking Glass" every Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at KSSU.com. Check out my other MySpace page for this alter ego in my top friends section.
To know me is to know that I love to read above all else...anything related to horror suits my yearning for the macabre...I need the blood, the sex, and the madness in order to survive. I idolize the author Richard Laymon (R.I.P.) along with the likes of Bentley Little, Brian Keene, Bryan Smith, Jack Ketchum and Ray Garton to name a few...there are honorable mentions as well in my book section. I also love to keep myself updated on issues related to women's studies and human sexuality (textbooks included...I know...I'm a nerd), so if you know of any good ones drop me a line. I am now delving into the True Crime section at my local Borders as well...
Second in my life is music...I like it hard and I like it fast. But above all reign A Perfect Circle, Type O Negative, Candlebox, Disturbed, The Birthday Massacre and Sarah McLachlan. Maynard's voice soothes even my deepest scars to allow this girl to feel at home in this fucked up world. Type O Negative creates music that cracks open my soul and allows the devil out to play. Candlebox reverts me back to the good 'ol days of grunge and high school, and Disturbed fucks me hard with some devil horns. Props out to my girl Chibi from TBM: I've only seen them once in concert and from this solitary experience she demonstrated how feminists rock onstage. As for Sarah...she's just Sarah: all that is what music is suppose to be; heart, soul, hard-core ovaries, and a little of fuck you with the voice of an angel.
My love of writing keeps me sane in times when there are no other methods of explaining myself...the sad fact is that I fail to have enough time in order to do so. What with school and work there's never enough time in the day for my pen to touch paper so that the demons can come out and play and my clitoris can start throbbin'.

I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
I am a woman I exist
I shake my fist but not my hips
My skin is dark my body is strong
I sign of rebirth no victim’s song
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
They cut out my sex they bind my feet
Silence my reflex no tongue to speak
I work in the fields I work in the store
I type up the deals and I mop the floors
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
My body is fertile I bring life about
Drugs, famine, and war, take them back out
My husband can beat me his right they say
And rape isn’t rape you say I like it that way
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
I know where my soul belongs
I know where I belong
