Although generally categorized as an alternative pop/rock band, Wickermoss straddles genres with ease. Their brooding and melancholic music shows a healthy respect for varied musical styles, reflecting their individual diverse influences ranging from pop to progressive rock. Their original compositions, which are infused with beguiling hooks and infectious grooves, are still imprinted with a distinct mark of their own.
Wickermoss was co-founded by Reiman Gesmundo on guitar and Leo Barrite on drums. In 2002, while still active with their respective bands, they toyed with the idea of forming their own female-fronted band, but it wasn't until a year later, September 2003, that they were able to do so. Reiman had Deo Advincula already in mind for vocals and when a casual jamming with two other friends turned into an awesome experience, they decided to make a go for it. They committed themselves to the band they called Wickermoss. Originally a band with a five-member line-up, the two other members eventually left the group in 2005. Bassist Roger Alcantara was invited to join in to permanently handle the low-end duties.
The band laces their music with hints of their individual personalites, thereby lending an almost reflective approach to the songs. Most of these songs were penned by Reiman, who also acts as the band's chief songwriter. Their debut album Falling Leaves was released November 2005 under Alt-G Records/GMA Records.
Etymology of Wickermoss
Wickermoss is a wordplay that spun from Deo's love for gardening and horticulture. It is a combination of two words: "Wicker" – the natural fiber strips used in making woven chairs, and "Moss" – a small, ubiquitous plant that is found almost anywhere. Put together, these words take on a musical meaning – a group of musicians whose different talents have been woven together to create music that invokes universal appreciation among listeners of diverse persuasions.
