Wide Awake In Nothing takes place in an indeterminate future, where life exists only inside giant, enclosed factories. Ben Carter is a young up and comer in the factory system who has been charged by the domineering manager, Mr. Addams, with finding out what is causing a loss in productivity.
Through the unwitting help of a trusting worker named Marshall, Ben soon learns that rumors of the outside world and relics from the past are to blame for the distractions. Facilitating these distractions by bringing in contraband is a "fixer," Sarah, who is uncertain whether or not to trust Ben. Though ordered to crack down on this contraband and those who provide it, Ben comes to appreciate these parts of life and must make a decision whether or not he will continue to lead an increasingly meaningless existence inside the factories or push the limits of faith and logic by venturing outside and into the unknown.
