   About Thousand Yard Stare
This page is dedicated to Thousand Yard Stare, a band who rode into the early-90's on the coat-tails of baggy. Sadly, they never really caught on, probably because they were just too tuneful with their guitars... plus they had Christian names like Giles and Dominic, which wasn't likely to get them past the first stop on the Tube line of musical stardom. Trivia... the band's record company was called the Stifled Aardvark Co. Ltd, whilst their records were distributed via Polydor. Producer Stephen Street (of Smiths/Blur affiliation) worked on both TYS albums. 0-0 aet video Comeuppance video Wideshire Two video Buttermouth video Thousand Yard Stare playing Version of Me - Live 'The Beat' Thousand Yard Stare playing Debutante - Live 'The Beat' Version of Me video and Interview Thousand Yard Stare - Live on 'James Whale' playing 'Comeuppance' Thousand Yard Stare - Live on 'James Whale' playing 'Cottager' Many thanks to Kevin Moxon for these videos!

Great stuff - I was at a wedding back down south at the weekend and we ending up chatting about all the great gigs, Slough Town FC, Revolution Records, The Old Trout etc etc. I'm sure a one off gig would go down a treat - everyone else seems to be doing it!

just been listening to my 'live bootleg' 10" :) which reminds me, a few years back the car stereo chewed up my Tumbletown tape, and with it, my only copy of 'Few And Far Between' :( , don't suppose anyones got it as an mp3 ????

remembering some VERY early gigs at Datchet village hall and some pub in Iver Heath !!! think I also saw the last 'offical' TYS gig at Oxford Jericho Tavern many years later, and many, many shows in between..... ah, Windsor Old Trout ...... :)

Great days indeed!
Loads of happy memories travelling round the country following these guys. We made it to Aberdeen, but alas, not Vo.
Any other 'Weatherwatchers' out there? What ever happened to Tom McCarthy, Neil the BFG, Greg Pullen, Simon 'Chinny' Cardwell, Daryl and Julie, Rob Thompson, the Wycombe boys (can't remember the bands name - sorry guys), Miles, Debbie Bray (and her lovely sister Paula) and Darren??

Do check out Giles' new band, they are good.

Genius band! First proper gig i ever went to was a TYS one. Edwards no.8 in Birmingham with support from Kinky Machine. Quality night. Saw them 8 times after that at various venues around the country. Still got all the coloured vinyls and finally managed to get hold of a copy of the Weatherwatching EP about 3 yrs ago. Took some hunting down but the collection was finally completed!

TYS reunion show perhaps?

Anyone got a copy of the instrumental that the live show used to be opened with just before they split?

Wow I can't believe I found this profile. It brings back many happy memories. In fact I dug Mappamundi out the other night and after listening to that I listened to Hands On.

Sadly all my singles are on the coloured vinyls and I no longer have a record player. So aside from a few songs that i'd put on tape for the car I've not heard them for years.

I would love some mp3's of tracks like Hand Son, Standoffish and Village End.

Thanks for the add.

PS, Does anybody know what went wrong in TYS? I know Stephen Barnes left after Mappamundi but I heard they replaced him and were set to release some new material. Any ideas anyone?
Mike

I remember seeing TYS in Milton Keynes of all places. I'd only heard one or two songs before and figured it was something to do on a rainy Wednesday night and it only cost £5 so I wasn't expecting much.

Probably ranks as one of the top three gigs I've ever been too. Legendary stuff.

I bought the CD from the foyer as we left and I'll have to dig it out to have a play this weekend.
