Widow Sunday was the nickname of Madame Dimanche, a Parisian woman of the 19th century, who, while in her late 70's, began to grow a horn from the center of her forehead. Over the course of several years, it grew to nearly 10 inches in length before being removed. Okay, so you won't find any horns growing out of the heads of band members Widow Sunday, but it definitely gives you an idea that this band is unique.
Formed in December 2007 in Framingham, Massachusetts by original members Adam Cutler on rhythm guitar, Patrick Flaherty on bass, and Darin Moyen on drums, they began recording their debut 4 song EP at White Sight and Sound Studio in Framingham, Massachusetts with Jim Foster (Graveyard BBQ, Genuflect) in February of 2008.
By October of that year, Widow Sunday completed recording their debut EP entitled "Embracing the Beast Within" with new vocalist Jacob Falconer. Shortly afterwards, their pummeling disc and reputation for a visceral live show caught the eye of Rat Pak Records founder Joe O'Brien. Impressed by the young act, O'Brien invited them to contribute a song on Unleashed 4, a compilation disc which the growing independent label releases each year to rave reviews.
The relationship only grew, and in May of 2009 the band signed on with Rat Pak Records. With new lead guitarist Sean Duffy firmly entrenched within the Widow Sunday fold, they released "Embracing the Beast Within" through Century Media Distro. The music video for their first single "The Strings of Clarity" was released that same month and was directed by Ossian of Kingdom Cold Productions. With their debut EP now available worldwide, they performed countless shows all over the northeastern United States over the following months.
They are currently gearing up to record their debut full length album due to be released sometime in early 2010.

"...what makes Widow Sunday so exciting is their originality. They are not wed to any particular style which allows them to be innovative. Their creativity is supported by dedication to technical skill. Their music includes innovative sounds, creative song structures and aggressive vocals. The power of their music produces intense live performance..." - Cailan Bennett, Dirtnap Entertainment
"...it's rare when bass guitar is even audible on any metal album, but bassist Pat Flaherty's sick low-end accentuates the guitar-driven metal and gives Beast a more feral sound than usual thrashy metal fare. The opening verses to 'Human Virus' are accompanied by wrecking-ball guitar riffs flanked by the powerful yet non-overpowering bass notes. The lyrics are just as bestial..." - David Boffa, Worcester Magazine
