I am like a little kid in the candy store 'cause I get to work on records, movies, books; all the stuff I imagined as a kid... except I imagined getting paid for it, too!
As a music producer, engineer, and mixer I help others make records, as well as providing the more-than-occasional psychotherapy session. I think I have the best job in the whole world, even when I spend over 1000 hours making one record and that causes me to lose track of every human being I know and get divorced. call me crazy.
I also have the privilege of playing music with the inspiring musicians of the banzai 3, dan bern & the IJBC, fraga, mongoheadelvis, the nadas, djate, 8-trac, and more. john medeski (MMW) once invited me to join his keyboardist-who-try-to-destroy-their-instruments-every-night-in-the-name-of art club, along with ben folds. I told him I was flattered but that I wouldn't join unless terry adams (NRBQ) was included. he readily agreed. true story.
these days, I'm mostly immersed in film/TV, working regularly as a writer/director or sound mixer. I also get the occasional random acting gig, like the one a couple of months ago where I was cast as a lead character in a poker show. yippee.
since moving to L.A., I've jumped back into filmmaking (where I started before my looooong detour through the music business), working on numerous short films, features ,and the odd commercial (you know that incompetent guardian angel for capital one?) and laying the groundwork for making the feature films that I seem destined to make.
with the help of my producing partners todd whitaker & leszek izdebki, I recently made three short films, “Head Diva Chronicles: Good Head Hunting”, "0 to Wil in 45 seconds" and "My First Toy Company". we are currently working on developing an officeload of feature films, shorts, and TV pilots... if only we had an office!
recently I got more serious and disciplined about writing... I'm working mostly on 2 screenplays and a couple of non-fiction, memoir-type books. anyone who knows me will immediately start nodding in understanding of why I might write a book. or two.)
my music career has quite the range of motion: I've done pop, hard rock, hip-hop, dancehall, old school reggae, ska, charleston tunes from 1917, jazz, electronica, singer-songwriter folk, R&B, tejano, gypsy jazz & more.
