In 2009 the Newcomer Festival is back with a slightly new direction. "Im Schatten der Halde" became a Rock Festival designed for my students with instrumental skills ranging from intermediate to semi professional.
On November21th, 2009 the following Bands rocked our town:
The secret Jazz Project", "Barfuss - Die Band", "Fo(u)r Beat, and "Dynamic Discord",
Moreover there was a forum for musicians and Bands searching for new Members.

In 2008
the Newcomer Festival was integrated as a part of "Ewald bebt"",a contest organized by the Kulturbüro of Herten and a division of Germanys Battle of the Bands.
In 2006, I started a series of Newcomer Festival in Herten, which i organized together with the cultural department of our town, to give my students and there Bands the opportunity to get on stage.

And to get things happening in our smalltown, I had the idea of starting a Rock Festival, to give my students the opportunity to perform with their Bands.
This was a great idea and by now we did this for the 4th time.

it all started with a trip to the algerian sahara a few years ago. I always wanted to make a journey to some oasis, like djanet or mides, to get a feeling what desert and life under these more difficult conditions is all about.
(sounds strange in a way, i know).
However we didn..t have much money so we ended up driving with cars, a mixture between a taxi and a bus. We were packed like sardines, windows open and no one in this vehicule was saying a word. You were looking out of the window and the longer our trip took the higher the dunes became.
For a long time in advance i questioned myself, if a desert might be boring, because of the fact that "there is not very much". But however it is in a way like New York. You can say " oh yeah i know these sky-scrapers, they are all the same ", but that is not true, and so the landscape of the sahara keeps constantly changing, and in addition to that you can have this special feeling for wideness.

in a guesthouse i met some musicians practising for a wedding, and i was caught by their conception of rhythm and there approach to harmonic minor.
travelling further, i thought that it would be a nice idea, to compose something like musical photographies. my personal view on things caught in the medium of a composition.

Berührungsängste sind unangebracht - "Chopsticks" und "Klartext" machen den Anfang. Und wenn du Lust hast, reih dich mit ein, singe, spiele, lache, tanze, trinke. Fast ganz wie früher... .
Ja, wurde ich gerne machen, weiss aber noch 100 prozent was auf dem plan bei uns steht, muss ich klären. Schade dass das Konzert Freitag ist, wurde ich gerne hinfahren, muss leider arbeiten. Ich melde mich noch mal, David
