You know how sometimes people sound familiar, while also sound original and fresh? I'd say Wil Deynes is like that. Put Ben Folds, Dashboard Confessionals and Keane in a blender, hit the switch and the sound you hear will be Deynes.
Wil Deynes’ (pronounced Danes) soulful voice immediately grabs you. His urban melodies- that sound good on vinyl or a podcast- demand repeated listening. Not surprisingly, Deynes’ career has been taking off, with features in BLENDER and NPR to go along with an ever growing internet buzz. A Mac tech by day, Deynes’ debut EP Stay is very much a DIY project. Wil jokes that his motto is “100% determination, 25% procrastination, 125% DIY.” That attitude- focus on something and you’ll accomplish it- rings through loud and clear.
Not many singers can jump so effortlessly between the range of styles that Wil covers, but he shrugs it off. “I’m trying to reach people on different levels,” he says simply. The EP’s title-cut ‘Stay’ is a slow ballad, easily relatable to anyone who has ever loved and lost. On ‘Tired,’ Deynes gets moodier with a harder, rock edge. And ‘Super Wonderful’ is a pop gem that will have you singing along before it’s over.
In addition to the NPR feature and 1.5 million plays on myspace, Deynes has been featured on MyNetwork TV’s Desire, Wicked Wicked Game and Secret Obsessions, as well as MaximOnline’s Anna De La Garza video shoot. His songs ‘Stay’ and ‘Super Wonderful’ charted in the top 10 on American Idol Underground. ‘Say Goodbye’ was “Track of the Day” on garageband.com. Deynes is also becoming a favorite on the podsafe music network, getting spins on Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code and The Jersey Todd Show. The universal appeal of his songs is obvious, as many are in rotation on internet radio stations around the globe.
In an age where every artist is trying whatever they can to make a name for themselves, Wil Deynes is actually doing it. DIY-style.

Sometimes when i look around, all i see is misery, despair, frustration and pain...
Then, i close my eyes, take a couple deep breaths, RELAX...And ask myself, "WHAT IF all I saw was what I WANTED TO SEE?" Then, I open my eyes. I see the sun, I see the blue sky, I see my girls smiling back at me, I see life...
And then, lo and behold, I see nothing but OPPORTUNITY...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
