People who've played the WHC include: the astounding Robyn Hitchcock - Robyn has played solo and with the Psychedelic Trams, a band that features among others the talents of the effervescent, Kimberley Rew, and multi-instrumentalist and all-round good fella, Terry Edwards. The wiry John Cooper Clarke has had us in stitches with his wit, Don Letts has had us entranced by the deepest dub and Helen McCookerybook has had us feeding on her songs. You could hear a pin drop when Catherine Feeny played a spell-binding set. Them Boonies and the audience grinned like idiots when they played. The night we joined forces with London's notorious Gypsy Hotel has become the stuff of local legend. A dressed-up crowd grooved to the dervish sounds of DJ Scratchy, were enflamed by burlesque queen, Lady Ane Angel and were whipped into a frenzy by the crazed and furious gang that is The Urban Voodoo Machine. Folk-rockers John Jones and the Reluctant Ramblers dropped in on their 2009 walking tour and kicked up a storm to a heaving crowd at the Barrels. That afternoon it was like a mini-festival. Also on the bill were local-band-going-places, Small Engine Repair, and the totally sublime Smoke Fairies, whose intertwining guitars and harmonies hushed the crowd. Another gig that had a real party swing was with crafty guitarist Charlie Kronick and Cheap, Sober and On Time. It was so good I fell off a table. Last time he played with the Deck Hands - a bunch of ne'er do goods press-ganged from the dark streets of London. The sweet voiced Emily Davies opened for the draw-droppingly fantastic Nick Harper. The gloriously tuneful Morning Bride are regulars. We have also enjoyed the rousing Mary Epworth & The Jubilee Band, the beguiling A-Line, the brooding Blind River Scare, the undisputed kings of 'surf-noir' The Bikini Beach Band, the oh-so-sophisticated Ken Easy's Love Safari, the fantabulous Edward Tudor Pole, country rockers Alan Tyler & the Lost Sons of Littlefield, Piano, from The Hank Dogs, purveyors of fine fiddlin' cajun & bluegrass - The Rosinators, local heroes The Whisky River Boys featuring the ubiquitous Martin Blake and the misanthrope that is horsemouth. We've had the funky Sofa play and the truly entertaining cod Mexican ska band Los Squideros. We hosted an absolute blinder with the exceedingly fine Indigo Moss(RIP). Roving troubadour, Pete Molinari, has also graced the WHC boards. Something of a departure was the event billed as 'From Papua to Hereford' with The Lani Singers which was co-hosted with Guerilla Cinema - Hereford's community cinema dedicated to showing you things you might not get to see otherwise. The first of those but not the last for sure! It was also great when The Misers, Small Engine Repair and Tim of Blind River Scare came together for the "Roots Rockin' for Haiti" benefit gig at the Blue Rooms demonstrating that the Wild Hare Club is about more than just the music.

About me:

Well done for finding the somewhat elusive Wild Hare Club! The WHC is a club - in the loosest sense - that takes form every now and again in the rural backwaters of the City of Hereford and the wider county of Herefordshire. True to its name, The Wild Hare Club is free to roam and an appropriate venue is chosen for each event. (For international readers who have found this page while searching for a rather cool-looking reggae joint in Chicago that rather bizarrely shares the WHC name, Herefordshire is in the UK and on the borders with Wales). Each gig or event is a one-off and always special - not just because the performers are uniformly fabulous but because the audience tends to be pretty special too. Orchestrating this hare-brained scheme - for love not money - is Richard, the MC. Each happening comes together with help of friends and family and sometimes Shakeypix is on hand to capture the moment on camera. WHC events are notoriously sporadic due to other commitments, but hopefully this will ensure a certain freshness. The Wild Hare Club will reappear before too long. Watch this space...

Who I'd like to meet:

Spirited people who would like to play a WHC gig or propose a WHC event and of course people who think they'd feel at home at the WHC. And oh yes, I would like to meet the ever witty Jessica Rotter who designed the wonderful logo. Such are the wonders of the web that real connections can indeed be forged through the ether.
