Influences
The main influence on our music is our ROWDY group of fans we call "The Herd". They are passionate about keeping Wild Horses wild and the music real. Since we moved back to Texas the fences have really been torn down. We play more from the heart than ever. Life's short y'all--BE FREE!
Musically we have always loved Willie Nelson. Talk about a free spirit. Think about it he's totally out there smoking weed and talking about reincarnation yet everyone embraces him and treasures him because he's real. Also we think the Eagles were the best band ever. On the now-side we're loving Ragweed, Chris Knight, Charlie Robinson, and Train.
Check out a show when you can. Along with our original stuff we might play Pink Floyd, George Jones, or Prince. Who cares it's all good. Come to our show knowing the fences are forever down and we run with the wind in our hair. If you feel like it dance on a table or chair or on stage with us. RUN FREE!
Please check with individual venues to confirm gigs before traveling any distance.
We call it the " Frontier Free For All". It's what we've called our show for years and pretty much describes our philosophy of music and life. A Wild Horses show will always be a no holds barred, anything goes, party where the fan becomes just as much a part of the show as the band. Ya see we've been around 15 years and have played thousands of shows all over this great country. We understand what folks want for their hard earned dollar---that's a good time. A Wild Horses show is the definition of a good time.
It's been a long crazy road for us. We've drifted through a couple of major label deals, had a top 40 song "I Will Survive", and a video on CMT and GAC. That was great but Wild Horses and major labels didn't really work. We refused to be turned into Mild Horses. We are the band Nashville couldn't tame and we're proud off that. We write most of our songs we do in our shows and have had the honor of our songs being recorded by other artists like George Jones and used as theme's for great events like the Houston Rodeo. We've played everywhere we think; Caesar's Palace, the Ryman Auditorium, PBR and PRCA finals in Las Vegas, Billy Bob's, Rodeo Houston Hideout, and the Wildhorse Saloon just to name a few along with about every major country music festival and fair on the mainland.
Wild Horses is Angela Rae, Michael Blake Mahler, Ralph "Thundersticks" McCauley, Steve "The Head" Kellough, Lon "Fat Boy" Holland and Chris "the Mule" Sigmon. Basically that boils down to a beautiful free spirited chick singer surrounded by a group of hard livin good ole boys. We're family in the spiritual sense and put here to one thing. In our lives and in our music, Wild Horses were made to be free.
