I started out in the early nineties as a singer and harmonica player in the roots & blues band Mambo Chillum. We mainly played covers of fifties blues and rhythm 'n' blues songs, but always tried to give them our own 'touch'... The band took off really fast and we built up a solid live reputation playing the Belgian Roots and underground scene. After four years we decided to make a record called "Mambo Chillum" which was released on the Kinky Star label... Unfortunately, right after the release, we decided to call it quits.
I laid low for a while, bought a beautiful old guitar and started to mess around on that. I no longer felt like playing other people's songs, so I started to work on my own stuff. It took quite a while - about five years - to get it right...
At that point I ran into Frits Standaert. We started hanging out, writing songs and recording them which led to Durango's first album called "Ship wreck Party". These basement recordings got some pretty good reviews in the Belgian music press and as a result the band picked up really fast... We played three very busy seasons, recorded a second album, "Loi du miel" and were nominated (for the second time) for the Zamu Awards in the "roots" category. I guess I'm kinda restless and need to change and stir things up every once in a while... That's why I decided to quit Durango in the summer of 2007.
Ever since I started playing music, it was my dream to become a solo artist... So I guess it was about time to take that step. I just love the tension, the intensity and the freedom of playing music on my own. It gets me in some kind of trance. It's weird and hard to describe...
Anyway, so here I am. Martin & Steel guitar, harmonica and foot stomp. Nothing to hide, straight from the heart: "Wild Ox Moan" is born...

Beste Fred, Ik zag u deze week spelen in de Kinky Star en dat was een lekker staaltje blues, volgens mij live op zijn best!! Thx for the add! Saw you before the Riders On The Storm concert in Antwerp. I think your performance was awsome. I totally liked the concept of just a man with a guitar, very pure and honest.
