Digging deep into the rich tradition of Americana Roots Pop -- Rockabilly, Country & Western and Folk Blues, Wildwood Andy brings fresh interpretations of beloved tunes and memorable original songs with voice that ranges from a rich baritone to a high lonesome falsetto, warm and reassuring, inviting the listener to feel the full impact of his true-to-life songs.
Andy has been making music since childhood -- studyng classical piano, learning harmonies and folk guitar at big family parties. In his teens, he fell in love with the pop music of the day -- especially Ricky Nelson, the Beach Boys and the Beatles. In 1962, when he heard a visitor playing boogie woogie and Jerry Lee Lewis on the family piano, Andy’s mind was made up.
His first band, a jug band, won a prize in a talent show, and his real education began with his time as a radio disk jockey, folk troubadour and guitarist in a rock band. In the following years, he explored his passion for American roots music -- boogie, blues, jazz, country and folk. When Bob Marley and the reggae revolution arrived in the mid-1970’s, Andy was ready. He enjoyed regional success with a number of yankee reggae bands from 1976 to 1984 -- performing at many benefit concerts and cultural festivals.
Today, Andy draws on all these influences to cook up a hearty, rhythmic blend of rockabilly, folk blues, country & western and melodic americana roots pop. His own original material is as authentic as the songs he borrows from the masters. He plays electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards, banjo, harmonica and ukulele. Wildwood Andy delivers the roots -- with a voice that’s full of warmth and wit -- give a listen!
