Oh my GOODNESS! What IS this??? A NEW TUNE??? Yes, officer, Sir. It's "I LIKE TO GO FAST" . . . and I actually DID get caught for speeding while I was playing this LOUD in the car. I told the cop that I thought that it was an INTERESTING fact that the music made me go too fast . . . and he said, "Yeah. Really interesting. Tell them about it in court." OK, back to business . . . I've been making little inuendos about an upcoming album and I can now finally say . . . IT'S HERE! Yes, STOP GO ROMEO is OUT and gradually trickling into the universe. We're hoping it turns into a GUSH! I'm willing to gush about it, for sure. READ ON: . . . But FIRST! Yeah, I am kinda disturbed about how our oceans are being recklessly harvested for fish - it's a regular free-for-all out there! But I do love my sushi too, and that's part of the problem. Thus . . . "(I LOVE MY) BENTO BOX" - one of the cooler new tunes from STOP GO ROMEO. But, yeah, I had to drop it for now from my MySpace to give you a taste of another morsal or two from my personal bento, so I decided to bump BENTO for I LIKE TO GO FAST! And I DO like to go fast, in my stodgy old way (Evidently the police didn't think I was stodgy at all, so maybe that's a compliment!!). I LIKE TO GO FAST is maybe a little peculiar for the regular modern listener (i.e. YOU), but let's hope it's weird IN A GOOD WAY . . . y'know what I'm sayin? BURMA SHAVE!! And now, back to the READ ON part: It has been four years or so since the last Wilfred N & the Grown Men album, and, HOLY MOLY! I recently remembered that this is in fact our 25th (you read right . . . TWENTY-FIVE) ANNIVERSARY (to the month of June!) since our first recorded album in 1984 ("RIDING DOUBLE"). "SAD NEW DAY" from that ol' vinyl album is still well-loved by our fans and it continues to LIVE on this MySpace page.
And perhaps even cooler than that is the fact that it's our 30th ANNIVERSARY since we first became WILFRED N & THE GROWN MEN! Yup, it's true. (pat, pat, pat 'n' all that). Thanks for your patience, my chairy friends (HEY! Remember PEE WEE?? . . . my FAVE movie of all time) - we sincerely hope you'll dig STOP GO ROMEO. Jamie Philp (veteran Grown Man, the handsome one), Clint Frazier (Shout Out Out Out Out, the noisy one) and Shout-boy/paronomasiac/co-producer Nik Kozub are my team on this new little gem. (I say 'gem', you may say 'rock'!) As you've now heard for a while, I first uploaded a 'pilot' tune from "Stop Go Romeo" called DARKNESS AND LIGHT. The people (YOU) seem to like it, judging by the daily modest-but-encouraging myspace hits. I (Wilfred) like it, too, and I hope that you (You) will spread the word to all potential new grownmenians. It sounds pretty fab, as they used to say, on headphones - check the Philpertronics! (courtesy of the Philp-man, himself, of course). This is an earlier mix of the tune, and the final version hasn't changed that much. i.e. still good but better. And, OH! I know that some of you have traveled over to my other page at www.myspace.com/wilfredkozub and found my piece titled "SUGAR CLOUD". If you find that you like THIS and you like THAT, then you're in LUCK because "Sugar Cloud" is a 'bridging piece' on our "Stop Go Romeo" album. Hmmm . . . very interesting, WILFREDO! (My MOM sometimes used to call me Wilfredo and we're not at all Spanish). nnnnnNow if you've been cool enough to read this far (and I know you are a very special, cool person by virtue of the very fact that you're still with me, here) I'VE ADDED YET ANOTHER NEW DITTY from the upcoming Stop Go Romeo. The new tune is YOU'RE TRUE BLUE. (I confess: Bowie Bowie Bowie. No shame, here.) Do you think it's ok? Would David approve? You'll also find "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH ME" on this my MySpace page - it's very true that I have a special fondness for this tune and I couldn't wait for you to hear it. (And it's not necessarily true that there's nothing wrong with me.) Now don't forget that a little while back I also uploaded a couple new songs from the past . . . "Love Is Good For You" (a song I always liked . . . because IT'S TRUE . . . Love IS good for you. . . LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOVVE) and a jumbly little bit of business called "The Sun Got Up" which, if you can sort it out, is a pretty interesting tune . . . and a personal fave, iymk (If You Must Know). Here's a little bit of TRIVIA . . . That sweet little song "Me & You" really IS about Me & You. And that little birdy singing isn't out of the can (as they say in the biz) she was my actual little pet yellow canary Chava (Chava canary! Get it? har har har. No, we're not Jewish, we're Spanish . . . oh yeah, we're not Spanish). Chava sang beautifully and is sadly missed, so I'm glad that I captured her - 'her' being 'him' because it's the males that do the singing, you know - on my recording device and preserved her (you know) memory on this little tune which also has special meaning for me. It really is a favorite of mine, and it's all true. I started writing the song with my dear friend Jamie Philp on his old piano in his basement with his Hawaiian tiki tiki niki nakis all around, and then completed it at home. With Chava.
I've left ON a couple old songs like "Sad New Day" (a wngm oldie but favie), plus some of my personal 'hey,Mom-this-still-sounds-pretty-good' songs from our last album "WAITING FOR LUCK TO COME". I hope you dig them as much as I/we do. "Waiting For Luck To Come" is available on iTunes and all the other diggity digi-download sites (courtesy the efforts of Turmic Records/The Orchard, Sweden office), and, of course, you can get the album at the wonderful CDBaby.com And that's where you can NOW find STOP GO ROMEO, too. Our new friends and KERFmusic.com will also love to provide you with "Stop Go Romeo"! Go there, Alberta friends!!!
Have a lovely summer (it's official now, and it's blisterin' - i.e. plus 15C on a good day - up here in the northland . . . and for some that would be winter weather! For others . . . um . . . springter), and please tune in to 'STOP GO ROMEO'. Kerf. CDBaby. Pretty soon . . . Zunior.
Chrs,
Your pal,
Wilfredo
