  • Bio

Summer summer SUMMER! Yup, SNOW is OVER and I'm sooooo OVER IT!!! . . . Time to get down to making some new tunes, and that's exactly what I am going to do. But . . . they're not QUITE ready yet. Still, rumours of a POSSIBLY-some-time-this-year new WNGM EP prevail (within my household, at least)!! So I thought it would be appropriate to at least add some new (but possibly 'familiar') Wilfred N tunes . . . of the type that may make you feel slightly giddy. "I'M THERE" . . . "I NEVER GET TIRED OF YOU" (rather exotic as we trip into the jungle in the middle section). Yeah, and I thought it would be fitting to bring back YOU'RE TRUE BLUE, too, since, when it comes to our northern city (Edmonton, didja know??) . . . I'm TRUE BLUE. And we rocked that tune pretty sweetly (and convincingly!!, dare I say) at the Pawn Shop for the SOS Festival on Whyte Ave last summer. A memorable gig!! ("I" remember it, for sure.) And we're gonna go for it once again in summer 2011 (June 16, actually) at The Artery! "What else is on your myspace, Wilfred???", you might ask. We have a BUSHEL of 'em (look it up, homies!) that we want you to hear, so some things gotta go, you know? Meanwhile, I am severely STOKED that we DID (finally) what we said we were going to do and put out our new album – STOP GO ROMEO – in 2009. We are supremely PROUD of it, no doubt aboot it. (CKUA put it at 80 on their TOP 100 albums of 2009!) And I hope a lot of you will get to hear it, because it was no small thing for us and we think WE DID IT UP PRETTY GOOD. And, yeah, I was dribbling out little . . . um, dribs . . . of the tunes from the album and finally broke down (I had a breakdown!) and decided to bring up (I brought up!!) the TITLE TRACK. That track be . . . "STOP GO ROMEO". It's a little mysterious, a little imagined and a little TRUE. And I made it for YOU. I hope you love it as much as I/We LOVE IT. Now I would like to take this moment. while I have your ENRAPT attention, to give a BIG THANKS and toodily-pip to all those who came out to our CD RELEASE event for our album, STOP GO ROMEO. I hope we rocked hard enough for ya . . . word is WE DID! I'm still sore in 2010!!. It was big fun playing with the Shout Out Out Out Out boys, Nik and Clint. They brought along their associate band to open for us – the risky and frisky "Real Fake Diamonds". We LUV 'em. And everyone who came out to our show got a little sweet ANNIVERSARY gift . . . Yup. Everyone got an EXCLUSIVE prerelease, 'unofficial' advance copy of a NEW COMPILATION RELEASE of our faves from the past. Whew! Redundancy RULZ. It's a cd to make you SMILE called "TAKE OUT MENU". And now that we're finally getting TAKE OUT MENU to everyone, we hope you'll keep smilin' with us in 2010. We have a lot of delectable musical snacks that I will be adding to our MySpace in the near future (some of the RARE variety). More on that a little later, but first . . . Well, dear fans (few but MIGHTY!!), I have a new little TREAT for you from "Stop Go Romeo". It's a return of the curious and thought-provoking (it provoked my thought enough to WRITE the dang thing!!), "I LIKE TO GO FAST". Hmmm . . . makes you think. Do you remember my little (true-ish) "I Like To Go Fast" story? . . . What IS this??? You WHAT??? You like to go FAST??? Yes, officer, Sir. It's another tune from "Stop Go Romeo" called "I LIKE TO GO FAST" . . . and I actually DID get caught for speeding while I was playing this LOUD in the car. I told the cop that I thought that it was an INTERESTING fact that the music made me go too fast . . . and he said, "Yeah. Really interesting. Tell them about it in court." Well, I DO like to go fast, in my stodgy old way (Evidently the police didn't think I was stodgy at all, so maybe that's a compliment!!). I LIKE TO GO FAST is maybe a little peculiar for the regular modern listener (i.e. YOU), but let's hope it's weird IN A GOOD WAY . . . y'know what I'm sayin? BURMA SHAVE!! (you can get it on iTunes!!)And did I remind you that it's from our new album, "STOP GO ROMEO"?? Oh. I did? Well yeah, I've been making little inuendos about a new album and I can now finally say . . . IT'S HERE! Yes, STOP GO ROMEO is OUT and gradually trickling into the universe. Like a cosmic trickle charger. We're hoping it turns into a GUSH! I'm willing to gush about it, for sure. READ ON: . . . But FIRST! I am kinda disturbed about how our oceans are being recklessly harvested for fish - it's a regular free-for-all out there! But I do love my sushi too, and that's part of the problem. Thus . . . "(I LOVE MY) BENTO BOX" - one of the cooler new tunes from STOP GO ROMEO that may one day reappear on this MySpace site!. And now, back to the READ ON part: Before Stop Go Romeo, it had been four years or so since the last Wilfred N & the Grown Men album, and, YIKERS! – I recently remembered that this is in fact our 25th (you read right . . . TWENTY-FIVE) ANNIVERSARY (to the month of June/09!) since our first recorded album in 1984 ("RIDING DOUBLE"). "SAD NEW DAY" from that ol' vinyl album is still well-loved by our fans and continued to make waves – 'new waves' – on this MySpace page. Truth be told . . . I had to CHUCK this beloved coolio tune for some new Wilfredicious toonage (as we say up here on the tundra). And perhaps even cooler than that is the fact that it's our 30th ANNIVERSARY since we first became WILFRED N & THE GROWN MEN! Yup, it's true. (pat, pat, pat 'n' all that). 2010 will be 31 years, but THAT hardly sounds like an anniversary, so let's just get the damned thing over with!!! Thanks for your patience, my chairy friends (HEY! Remember PEE WEE?? . . . my FAVE movie of all time!!) - we sincerely hope you'll dig STOP GO ROMEO. Jamie Philp (veteran Grown Man, the handsome one), Clint Frazier (Shout Out Out Out Out, the noisy one) and Shout-boy/paronomasiac/co-producer Nik Kozub are my team on this new little gem. (I say 'GEM', you may say 'ROCK'!) As you've now heard for a while, I first uploaded a 'pilot' version of "DARKNESS AND LIGHT" from "STOP GO ROMEO". The people (YOU) seem to like it, judging by the daily modest-but-encouraging MySpace hits. I (Wilfred) like it, too, and I hope that you (You) will spread the word to all potential new grownmenians. It sounds pretty fab, as they used to say, on headphones - check the Philpertronics! (courtesy of the Philp-man, himself, of course). This is an earlier mix of the tune, and the final version hasn't changed that much. i.e. still good but better. And, OH! I know that some of you have traveled over to my other page at www.myspace.com/wilfredkozub and found my piece titled "SUGAR CLOUD". If you find that you like THIS and you like THAT, then you're in LUCK because "Sugar Cloud" is a 'bridging piece' on our "Stop Go Romeo" album. Hmmm . . . very interesting, WILFREDO! (My MOM sometimes used to call me Wilfredo and we're not at all Spanish). nnnnnNow if you've been cool enough to read this far (and I know you are a very special, cool person by virtue of the very fact that you're still with me, here) you'll also find "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH ME" on this my MySpace page - it's very true that I have a special fondness for this tune and I couldn't wait for you to hear it. (And it's not necessarily true that there's nothing wrong with me.) Now don't forget that a little while back I also uploaded a couple new songs from the past . . . HERE I GO AGAIN – "LOVE IS GOOD FOR YOU" (a song I always liked, er . . . loved . . . because IT'S TRUE . . . Love IS good for you. . . LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOVVE). Here's a little bit of TRIVIA . . . That sweet little song "ME & YOU" really IS about Me & You. And that little birdy singing isn't out of the can (as they say in the biz) she was my actual little pet yellow canary Chava (Chava canary! Get it? har har har. No, we're not Jewish, we're Spanish . . . oh yeah, we're NOT Spanish). Chava sang beautifully and is sadly missed, so I'm glad that I captured her - 'her' being 'him' because it's the males that do the singing, you know - on my recording device and preserved her (you know) memory on this little tune which also has special meaning for me. It really is a favorite of mine, and it's all true. I started writing the song with my dear friend Jamie Philp on his old piano in his basement with his Hawaiian tiki tiki niki nakis all around, and then completed it at home. With Chava. AND! I have to say that I am MOST PLEASED that someone has been coming to our MySpace page just about every day and playing ME & YOU . . . which is a signal to me that the song really IS worthy in someone's heart. And that REALLY means a lot to me. I love it and somebody else evidently does, too. That makes this rock/schlock silliness ALL worth it for me. THANK YOU!! I'll soon introduce you to a couple 'special' songs like "I Only Believe In You" (a wngm favie), plus some of my personal 'hey,Mom-this-still-sounds-pretty-good' songs from our last album "WAITING FOR LUCK TO COME". Another one is "I've Got Time" which is pretty cool if 'you've got time' to listen to it . . . it's a little longish. I hope you dig them as much as I/we do. DO check out "I THINK ABOUT", which I have reinstated on our proud, verbose MySpace site. "Waiting For Luck To Come" is available on iTunes and all the other diggity digi-download sites, and, of course, you can get the album at the wonderful CDBaby.com And that's where you can NOW find STOP GO ROMEO and TAKE OUT MENU, too. ALL OVER THE friggin' WORLD!! Our friends and KERFmusic.com will also love to provide you with STOP GO ROMEO and TAKE OUT MENU! Go there, Alberta friends!!! OK . . . there are a few, very few more minutes of daylight and the temps are getting borderline mild, which means it' SUMMERTIME!!! It's blisterin' enough, for sure, . . . to unabashedly don the short shorts and summer bras. Meanwhile . . . Please don't forget to tune in to 'STOP GO ROMEO'. It's waaaay better than a needle in the eye (something I actually know about, cuz I had one)! – I would not kid you about this, either. And . . . OUT NOW AS WELL!!! . . . our new WILFRED N & THE GROWN MEN compilation of past cheeriness – TAKE OUT MENU!!! (Confucius say . . . "listen to Wilfred N & the Grown Men and be happy all day long!") Remember . . . Kerf. CDBaby. And Zunior.com too! iTunes!! Thanks for your smiley support. We love you! And WE LOVE YOU EVEN BIGGER in 2010!! Have a LAUGH TODAY !

    A Lawyer in a Mousetrap

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT LAWYERS ...

How do you get a lawyer down from a tree?  Easy - just cut the rope."

"It was so cold last week that I saw several attorneys with their hands in their OWN pockets."

"How was copper wire invented?  Two lawyers got hold of a penny at the same time."

"How many lawyers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?  How many can you afford?"

"The two partners in a law firm were having lunch when suddenly one of them jumped up and said, "I have to go back to the office - I forgot to lock the safe!" The other partner replied, "What are you worried about? WE'RE BOTH HERE."

"How does a lawyer go to sleep at night?  Easy - first he LIES on one side, then he LIES on the other."

LAUGHTER IS THE SPICE OF LIFE!

    Have COURAGE !

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT COURAGE  ...

"The stories of PAST COURAGE can define that ingredient -

they can TEACH, they can OFFER HOPE, they can provide

INSPIRATION. But they CANNOT SUPPLY COURAGE ITSELF.

For this EACH MAN MUST LOOK INTO HIS OWN SOUL."

Only LOVE can conquer HATE !

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT HATRED ...

"Holding ANGER is a POISON. It eats you from inside. We think that HATING is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But HATRED is a curved blade.

And the HARMS WE DO, we do TO OURSELVES."

    ~ Mitch Albom

YOU CANNOT HATE OTHER PEOPLE WITHOUT

HATING YOURSELF!  HATRED AND ANGER ARE

POWERLESS WHEN MET WITH KINDNESS AND LOVE!

Ok. That's IT! Summer's over. Indian Summer????OVER! Yup, SNOW is here and it's c-c-c-c-c-c COLD . . . but that's Edmonton-style. It's TIME TO HUNKER DOWN! And that's exactly what I am going to do. So I thought it would be a good idea to add some new (but possibly 'familiar') Wilfred N "Hunkerin' Down' tunes . . . of the type that will make you feel slightly tropical for the chilly season. "I'M THERE" . . . "I NEVER GET TIRED OF YOU" (rather exotic as we trip into the jungle in the middle section) . . . and the ridiculously FUN and tropical "BOSSALOHA". (I have often said I don't dig 'scat' singing, and here I am singin' it! . . . ok, to me it's 'quasi-skat', so maybe I'm excused). These songs are ones "that I'm quite fond of actually" (spoke with a slight, fake-yet-truly-sincere Brit accent that might be heard on the beaches of, say, Ibiza) Yeah, and I thought it would be fitting to bring back YOU'RE TRUE BLUE, too, since, when it comes to our northern city (Edmonton, didja know??) . . . It’s blisterin’ enough, for sure, . . . to unabashedly don the short shorts and summer bras. Meanwhile . . Chrs, Your pal for LIFE, Wilfredo
