   About Will Coca

MySpace Layout Generator

Singer/Songwriter Will Coca writes from the heart making his music elude with a genuinely honest aroma. Each album is a snapshot of Will’s life experiences. Mainly acoustical, his sound is relaxed pop rock with an soulful groove. Not surprisingly Will’s influences include James Taylor, The Beatles, Sam Cooke, and Marvyn Gaye to name a few; mainly because, “They have always kept it really honest and inspire me to do the same.” WC. Although Will Coca has been involved with music in some aspect throughout his life the hardcore beginning was in 2001. That was when he met Portland’s Tim Ellis. A friendship soon formed and Tim became Will’s mentor and instructor. Will and Tim would play venues together with the end result being the creation of Will’s first demo where Will played all the instruments. Knowing talent when he sees it, Tim got Will an internship at Kung Fu Bakery Studios under the direction of Dave Freidlander as an engineer. This new perspective of the music world gave Will a chance to add to his already promising musical abilities. In 2003, Will Coca released his first complete CD entitled Midnight Melodies where it was quickly noticed by Portland’s own KINK 102. For the summer of 2003 Will Coca was KINK’s Local Music Spotlight Artist with Midnight Melodies “Trouble with the World”. Even with this success Coca continued to play local venues to sharpen his skills and master more instruments. 2004 was a busy year for this artist, playing and winning Battle of the Bands in Lake Oswego, performing at Lakefest and all of this while completing and releasing Today Was Good. This album has a dark pensive mood, full of introspective poetry. Once again Will shows his natural musical talent by playing all instruments aside from the strings and the accompanying band members. Also during this time Will changed gears a bit and started working with teens in an after school program. This program taught youth how to write and record their own music, while teaching them the character process that it entails. Will Coca continued to play local venues and coffee shops. In 2006 Will Coca performed at SOAR International’s annual benefit concert and has been asked to return to play since. Borders welcomed Will with open arms in 2006 giving him different locations in the Portland metro area to play at; all the while Will was composing his latest CD Alchemy. Finally 2007 brought the completion of this great album. The tone is soulful, honest and inevitably blunt. Clearly a favorite by fans their excitement and Coca’s onstage energy made the CD Release Party (held at Days Music Theater) all the more electrifying. 2009 is here and already he is experimenting with new sound, as is heard in “Empty Man”. Focused on getting his music circulated, Will Coca has his hopes on traveling and showcasing his talent. To see Will Coca live look above for his upcoming shows.
