Will Dunlap Band-Tim Curry Trio-Rocking Gospel Project-Steelbeam!
Influences
Bob Marley,Frank Zappa,Stevie Wonder,Van Morrison,Beatles,Mose Allison and Jimi Hendrix!
I learned a lot in the 1990's while playing as a freelance drummer.I worked in clubs like Chez Fred, the Top of the Mark and Steppin' out with the J.W. Davis Jazz group. The late Pat Patterson was the fantastic trumpet player in that band. Then, New York pianist Jimmy Neeley was my jazz and theory teacher!.He had a huge influence on my approach to live performance.I also picked up a lot about latin music while I playing with Amparo Garcia Crow and her eclectic band Mooncoop.
Now days Ray Benson and Timothy Curry are my musical role models! Also people like Leeanne Athertan and Carolyn Wonderland inspire me every time I see them play!
Thanks to all the great people who I've had the pleasure of playing and writing music with!
Sounds Like

NOW PERFORMING WITH TIM THE CURRY TRIO! also:STEELBEAM and the Rocking Gospel Project!
With five independent releases and hundreds of songs in his catalog,Will is more than a performing songwriter and an innovative baritone guitarist, he's an independent producer that works with great Texas artists!
BIO:Will's grandmother was a soprano on the stage who worked with and knew personally the great Irving Berlin! From an early age Will learned a lot about performance from sitting at the piano and watching her sing and play classic tunes from the 1940's and 50's.
Listening to his dad sing and play folk guitar at local parties in the early 1960's was also an inspiration to young Will. Then in 1972 he was the drummer who helped build the Denver based 'Lightning' band into a successful rock and roll show!During those days 'Wild' Will was known simply as Bill Dunlap. They used to have regular jam sessions with the likes of the sax player Nelson Rangell. He later studied at Berkley College of Music and at North Texas State in Denton Tx.In 1980 he moved to Austin and got his first shot at the big time when singer Vicky Southern took several of his songs into the studio to record with some of Austin's best including:Eric Johnson,Mitch Watkins,Dave Seabree, Herman Rarebell from the Scorpions! It was during this period that he first met his long time band mates:Carl Childs,Sam McBurnett and J.D. Higginbotham. Will,Carl and the boys had two bands "Child's Play"and the"Rockaholic's" that played all the old Austin haunts in the mid.1980's.Percussionist Jorge deArmas joined the band in 1995 and Viola player Dr. Robert Radmer added his talents in 2001.In 2008 big Mike "Tanto" joined in on vocals and Harmonica's.The rest is History!
From"the Old Steamboat,Austin Out House,Joe's Generic,Black Cat Lounge and Chicago House"in the 1980's to"Liberty Lunch,Flamingo Cantina,Auditorium Shores,Top of the Mark and The Austin Music Hall" in the 90's,and in 2005:MoMo's,Saxon pub,Maria's,Threadgills and the Monarch Theater ect... Will and his band have paid their dues!
Highlights:The Christmas Eve show 2005 and the March 18th 2009 SXSW shows at The Saxon Pub with Timothy Curry and Ray Benson were magical nights! With Ray and Tim singing masterfully,Will playing rhythm on Acoustic Baritone guitar and Ray really cutting loose with his fluid Jazzy leads. It was a night to remember! Check out the blogs on this page to see us live at the Saxon pub in Austin Texas.
