'Will Grove-White & The Others' is a musical project by me, Will Grove-White, the nipper of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. I've been playing in the Ukulele Orchestra since 1989, when I was 16, but over the last year I've written and recorded my own album (with the help of some ace musicians), some of which you can hear here. Inspired by artists such as the Mills Brothers, Jim Henson, Louis Jordan, Tom Waits, Paul Spooner and Aretha Franklin, it brings to mind the foggy evening in Shepherds Bush when Raymond Scott and Sidney Bechet sang bluegrass harmonies to Sid James. Clarinets, Musical Saws, Tubas and Ukuleles all have a place at the table. In these all-too gloomy and bleak times, 'Will Grove-White & The Others' offer a small helping of joy. Grab a plate and tuck in.
Now, as you listen to the tunes above, remember that I have two small and hungry children to feed, so buying the album would be a great next step... You can buy the CD from the Ukulele Orchestra website (www.ukuleleorchestra.com) for a mere £10. One click HERE will take you right there. Glad you came and had a listen, feel free to leave a comment...
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
