Having grown up in a small Wiltshire village, at aged 17, Will Wilde moved South to the vibrant city of Brighton with the intention of forming his own band, recruiting the best young blues musicians from Brighton’s thriving music scene. He did just that and in 2006 Will ‘Harmonica’ Wilde and The Neptune Blues Band were born!
Having already made somewhat of a name for himself touring the UK and Europe playing Harmonica for his elder sister, Ruf Records artist Dani Wilde, in Summer 2008 Will took the step of independently releasing his debut album entitled ‘Nothing But Trouble’. The album was well received by the blues community and rated highly by the likes of Blues in Britain and Blues Matters Magazines and also by Paul Jones who interviewed Will and began playing the record on BBC Radio 2.
Following the album release, Will ‘Harmonica’ Wilde toured the UK Blues Clubs playing both headline slots and supports for his hero’s including Charlie Musselwhite, Johnny Mastro & The Mama’s Boys, and Joe Filisko. He also had the opportunity of opening for Jools Holland at The Royal Albert Hall with his sister Dani Wilde and The Chris Holland Band.
In 2009, Will ‘Harmonica’ Wilde and The Neptune Blues Band embarked on a tour of Germany. The Tour took the band from North to South hitting clubs in key cities including Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and the prestigious ‘Blues Garage’ in Hannover. The audiences were more than enthusiastic about the bands performance each night and Will was more than pleased with the success of his album sales.
Will states his prime influences as ‘Muddy Waters, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Charlie Musselwhite, Lurrie Bell and Pierre Lacocque of Mississippi Heat’. When asked what switched him on to the blues, Will simply replied “I really feel like this is what I was born to do; I don’t know any other way to express what I’m feeling. It’s as if I didn’t choose the blues; the blues chose me!”
Will is currently looking forward to recording his second album, which will be released Autumn 2010. “I feel I’ve gained so much experience as a songwriter, harpist and vocalist from the time I’ve spent on the road over the past few years” said Will. “I have written a lot of the next album already; I have a lot to say in this next album and so I’m pleased with the new songs. My vocals on the new songs have much more of a soul influence. I’ve really been inspired by the likes of Sam Cooke and Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges but instrumentally it’ll still be very much true to the Blues with Chicago Shuffles and Harmonica.”
2010 sees Will and his band playing a number of double headline shows with Dani Wilde in the UK and Europe as well as touring the club circuit independently and performing at British Blues Festivals. There is no doubt that Will ‘Harmonica’ Wilde is set to be a huge name on the International Blues Scene!
